I wish I hadn't seen them. I suppose the game won't be too long, since it is an expansion, so at this point we have probably seen about everything there is to see in it..

Not true. I dont think we have even seen 2-5%.

Well you shouldn't have watched them then. Trailers, gameplay vids and demos never give everything away.

more like 0.5%, all we have seen is a brush of what the sotry is about and what gaming aspects we will expect to find, nothing else

How do they give away too much?

I've seen the trailer and all the gameplay videos, and I still don't have any clue as to what will happen in Episode 2, except that I'm playing in a forest with... stuff... happening.

I guess a bunch of gameplay vids worth around 15 minutes spoil a 6 hour game. Damn. Episode 2 won't be seeing my money.

Z0mgBBQH4x!!! I now know that the game does not last longer than 15 min!!

Did the episode 1 trailers give away the whole story? No. they just gave you 30-60 second glimpses of what would be happening. Technically, figure 5 or 6 trailers like that had only gave away 6 minutes out of 3 hours. That is 1/30th of the game...or less than 4%.

This is why I haven't watched them yet :D I'm proud of myself.

I refuse to use spoiler tags.

OK, so we fight striders.
Ok, so there's a new car.
Ok, so there's trees.
Ok, so there's vortigaunts.
Ok, so there's new antlions.
OK... ok... ok... ok!

I wasn't spoiled at all. You know what really spoils things? Finding a book, and reading the back cover. THAT's a spoiler.

That was sarcasm? No way! Shit, No way hahaw! Shit! Serious? Hah man! Shit!

...

*finishes watching computerboy.mov*

I don't think they give that much away - we know what the scene is going to be for two of the chapters (antlion den, outdoor stuff) out of the 5 or 6 chapters that will be in the finished game.

zleppelin - I find it humorous that three out of four of your posts have been new threads.

Thats most likely how long it will be,but Samon is a fanboy if you critezise him he will ban you.

It wont be three hours, its about an hour longer than EP1, but EP1 wasn't even three hours if you took your time like you are supposed to do

Not to mention there will be a lot more area to cover than in Ep1. It will definately be at least 4 hours.

Also, the fact that with the new open areas there are now apparantly different ways to approach objectives which adds a lot of replay value

But yeah, once Episode 2 is released, record you playing through it in 3 hours exactly minus cheats of any form.

I thought episode 2 was about 3 hours long :)
Ep1 was about 4 hours long (according to the Steam statistics that's about the average time people completed it in). Ep2 has been quoted to be longer and portal to be 3 hours IIRC.

I don't think Valve gives away too much in their demo vids. I think they show us what we need to see, the graphics, some little extras, the gameplay and thats about it, they don't reveal any of the major secrets of the game, Valve are very good at keeping secrets

I think he means they delay them so that they can do a little more tweaking or something.

Valve always listens to the community. Perhaps they may put new enemies like houndeyes and bullsquids into the game.

Are you in game design? The answer is no.

Nor are you.
2-3 months for "polishing" is far too long. It is a quarter of a year. You'll know it is a noteworthy time if you compare it with the full game-construction length.

I say polish it all you can until you feel it's ready to be released. **** anything else. Doesn't matter how long it took to make.

No. Polishing is however long it should be. You aren't in the position to say it is too long or too this. You have no idea what you are talking about. Again.

I've seen games being polished for a year, sometimes more. Samon's right, unless you are a Valve employee, we have no way of knowing what is being polished, why and how long. As long as it takes, like someone used to say.

their games are amazing, let them take however long they need to keep on making them amazing...most likely, the reasons for delaying all the time is to keep their games amazing. in conclusion, it will be amazing when it comes out.

I kind of agree with the topicstarter. At least a little bit. Valve always shows a lot of footage. They show to much in my opinion. Especially before Half-Life 2 was released. We’ve seen pretty much every enemy, character, weapon and vehicle and every (important) location before ever playing the game. So when I eventually was playing Half-Life 2, nothing really surprised me. Unfortunately. I just don’t want the same thing to happen with Episode Two. I want to be surprised when I’m playing the game.

But if Valve keeps releasing footage for Episode Two (as they probably will) the same thing wíll happen. We probably have already seen every important location (forest, riverbeds, mineshaft / Antlion nest, old missile silo), we’ve seen a lot of footage of the most important new enemy (Hunter) and we’ve seen a new weapon in action. We’ve seen (one of?)our vehicle(s), we know the G-man and the Advisors are going the back (not really a surprise though) and the Vortigaunts are going to be our major allies throughout the game.

So we might have seen only 5% of the actual game, we probably háve seen 50% of the enemies, characters, story, locations, weapons, vehicles etc.

True, there are a lot of things we haven’t seen and most of the game is still a mystery to us, but you can’t say the trailers don’t give anything away.

The problem is, I can’t resist watching these trailers :)
And I just love watching Half-Life trailers.

I agree.
