just watched it today in a nearly empty cinema and my god is it brilliant...

its the best horror film i've seen in quite some time...i'm not big on horrors that rely on jump scare tactic but this film has so much genuine fear, dread and tension in between the adrenaline jolting cues that its just one of those that makes you on the edge, all the time

i didn't barely jump but a mate i was with ...i have never seen a film with ANYONE who jumps as much...i grabbed his knee midway through because i thought it'd be hilarious and gay at the same time and he nearly shat all over the seat, me and the other 2 people i was with

seriously see it but...its extremely EXTREMELY gorey so if you're a wimp, don't bother with it. anyhow you'll be shaken because it IS disturbing and the...'creatures' are genuinley freakish. ESPECIALLY when they introduce them

when you have watched it...one bit in particular got me and
its a bit with an infrared video camera.
expertly directed and great entertainment

see it
see it

you get my point

see it

Oh so it is good? My friend was talking about it and I was like "Blah blah who cares." This actually sounds interesting, is out in America?

i heard it doesn;t pull any punches, is this true?
all the reviews on AICN have been positive

You've convinced me to watch it this Friday. Empires five star review has convinced me aswell.

It looks great, plus i really enjoyed dogsoldiers so i know he's a competant director, will go see it asap

its very raw like horror movies circa late 70s...and there are so many references in there to other cult films like apocolypse now, blair witch, cube and what i percieve to be a little dig at horror film hollywood endings

i loved it...if you don't, fair enough. a criticism i can see some giving is it takes a little while for the horror to start moving except...for me, it has the most horribly amazing intro to any horror i've seen for a while

Its a horror film about people who go caving/potholing and discover creatures underground

yeah i heard its good, old school gore too, although i read the monsters or watever they are look sorta sh*t.?

i thought they didn't at all...when you just catch glimpses of them when they're introducing it and its stalking the group, they're truely frightening. first time you see one in the very distance, me and me mate turned to each other like :O ...and the bit i mention in the spoiler is actually just terrifying and i actually commented at the time that it was a CLASSIC horror moment. one i'll remember for a long time

Ok, I'll say what I first thought when I saw the trailer - jesus christ, looks like a bag of shite worth missing.

But I really want to go and see it now!

give it a watch and if you don't like it, at least you tried

what i can't stand is how people dismiss things before they even see it. i'll always watch a film, fully or half way before i condem it

So your saying you'd watch From Justin to Kelly?

It's got a rubbish trailer and the plot you can grasp from the film from the trailer is: "oh no, we thought it would be alright and normal but there are beasties down here!!!"

Doesn't sell it too well, but I want to see it as I've heard good things about it!

i didn't think the trailer was too impressive either but i knew as it was from neil marshall who did the excellent dog soldiers, which had a lot of nods to other horror films giving you the feeling that the guy behind the film was someone who knew what he was doing, i knew it was going to be great entertainment

entertainment i got...disturbing entertainment at that

Saw it today. I enjoyed it, although I didn't find it scary at all and the ending was disappointing IMO. Altough I recommend it.

Anyone else notice the Crawler when they first put the flare up on the right hand side of the screen? I thought that was freaky.

Just come back from seeing it, brilliant film...really well done with loads of jumps and shocks. Good how the director moved away from dogsoldiers humour to make it more serious and as a result more scary too.

Also dopple, that bit you mentioned, was fantastic! Nicely unsettled me :)

i liked the idea behind the ending, but it just seemed like it could have been done better, liked the rest of the film, though, especially how you don;t even see the creatures for the longest time, really makes you wonder if they're even in the film at all

Just watched the trailer for similar caving film 'The Cave', being American its bigger budget, has better known actors, better sfx and more action...all adding up to it looking a hell of a lot worse than the gritty realism of The Descent. I think the battle for the best caving movie of the summer has already been won and i haven't even seen the other contender :)

This is the first ever movie, where I sat in the cinema afterwards, going holy ****, over and over again.

This is so gory.....

I'll put the worst parts in spoilers....
The part where she bashes its head in on the rocks, or pushes her thumbs throught its eyes (28 days later) made me ****ing squirm, it was horrible.

Some of the parts made my nervous friend squeal, made me jump outta my seat.

It has some great scares such as Doppelgofer mentioned, makes you jump when you should expect it, but you don't.

Overall, I didn't really like this, see this if you like gore and jumpy movies.

It wasn't that gory really, you should watch switchblade romance aka high tension :)
