As for me, I bought it over Steam.

im gonna buy off steam, ive had my share of game boxes and its always been the same, look at them while installing, put up never to be seen again. like right now, i can look over on my desk and see my starcraft battlechest box sitting there under a pile of CD's collecting dust.

I'm going to buy it in the store, cuz i feel more secure with the cdkey and cd-rom with the box.

In case i have to clean up everything in my computer, and i forgot my cdkey, it will be too complicated to reinstall everything

Personally, I feel better about my CD-KEY being stored on a server at Valve headquarters then I do about having one on a CD case that I could very easy lose.

Reinstallation is simple with Steam. Log in. That's it. Everything will download itself. It just takes time that's all, unless you had the foresight to back up the cache files.

With my bank account topped out at a whopping 40 dollars, I am unable to purchase HL2 at this moment.

However, when I do eventually buy it (Don't know when that'll be) I will get the silver from Steam.
