I just noticed something weird in his clan Liemer or whatever and I am new to the hl games so I was wondering if you can fill me in about this. There is a crooked picture on the wall with one of the docters face marked out. Why?

That's Breen (probably), the guy that's talking on the video screens. The "Welcome to City 17" guy.

And his name is Kleiner. Klay-nar.

By the way, if you are new to HL, have you played HL1? I think it would be easier to play HL2 if you would have played it. You would know what everything is really about, what is the weird chamber room in the opening scene and so.

Enough with the name! I believe that the question was why there is a crooked picture and the answere: The Dr. streightens it and this opens the door to the part of the lab where the teleporter is. after the door opens, the picture moves to be crooked again.

It's Deutsch. I know. In German the second vowel in a set of 2 is the sound you make. And it's spelled Kleiner, so there ya go. (2 syllables Klei-ner. Say it to yourself.)

And actually, when he tilts the picture it opens up a panel on the support beam NEXT to the door which is a retinal scanner, and then when he works that thing it opens the door.

thank you for the addition of information about the door, but I must protest that the name in the game itself is pronounced kly-ner. You here Alyx pronounce it that way. It may not be that way in real life but this is a game we're talking about here.

Just what I thought when I read his post.

Barney and Alyx both say "Kly-ner", regardless of how it's actually supposed to be pronounced, the game devs decided it should be pronounced "Kly-Ner". Say it to yourself.

Even then, people pronounce things differently, the only one I can think of right now (there are alot more, though) is Nazi. Some people say "Not-see", some people say "Naz-ee".

Stop derailing it acepilot.

The reason for the scratched out face is simple. Breen made the decision to hand Earth over to the combine after the 7 hour war, to prevent the demise of the human race completely and work out a deal with the Combine. Of course every person would have rather fought to the last breath, so his actions have made him a hate figure...obviously. You could argue he did good by preserving the species (what was left of it) to allow the rebel uprising.
