Sorry if this is another unnecessary thread, but I just wanted to say.. when I first saw the benchmarks for HL2, the 60 frames @ 1024 /w no FSAA on a radeon 9800 PRO struck me as pretty damn low. After seeing the DX9 Source video, I'm assuming that is a simulation of real gameplay. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw the video run choppy on another person's computer, and perfectly on mine.) If so, then I don't care what the frame number says.. I bow my head in utmost respect to Valve for creating a world that is realistic and involving beyond my wildest hopes.

The E3 Demo video made me say "Oh wow.", but this considerably shorter DX9 video left me breathless. Who would have ever thought, back in the days of zelda 1 and blades of steel, that such things might be possible.

the dx9 source video wasn't rendered on your computer, but it looks similar to how the actual game will look, just like the high quality demonstration videos which were released on steam earlier.

the video is possible to run at better frame rates than the actual game will on your computer, the reason it ran choppy on a friends computer is because his computer was unable to render THE VIDEO fast enough for it to not be choppy, but this could probably be remedied with advanced play in the binktools and selecting the directdraw video rendering mode.

once again the video is not an accurate depiction of framerates or graphics capabilities of your computer, it is only a video.

BINK videos run choppy because of the Blitting style. If I didn't have RAD tools it would've run choppy on mine too.

it runs slow on slow computers; but I've heard it can be very choppy on some high-end machines; I get a constant 30fps playback with a 1600+

and if you get radgametools and set it to use a different blitting style it'll play fine.

The point is it looks like the f*cking bomb. :)

Perhaps Valve should consult you, since you apparently know how an Ant Lion is supposed to look. By the way, where can I go to see these Ant Lions for real so that I can compare them to the video to see the difference?

LOL I was expecting someone would post the insect Ant Lion..
But we all know what I meant, and it didn't involve no insects! :p
