In a giant story arc conclusion like Ep3 some mysteries will be solved. While most people are anxiously waiting for a explanation of the Gman, I personally want some info of the Gman's unseen employers. Over the series, information about the Gman has been given (albeit little). Yet, absolutely NO information has been given to the Gman's more powerful Employers.

Do you want to know about The Employers

I do, I just don't see it happening. Maybe we'll get a couple hints here and there, but if we know so little about the G-Man, I doubt we'll know much about his employers. It would be nice to know who he's working for though.

I want to know everything about the GMan by the end of this episode, lol. No more cliffhangers, no more questions.

Is it not one and the same? If we find out about the Employers of the G-Man, we find out an awful lot about the G-Man himself.

yeah defo been a mystery since 1997 :/ thats worse than lost :p wonder if they will answer everything? could episode 3 be the end of half life ?

always wondered why wasnt called half life 3 episode 1 2 and 3 to be honest

I don't think they reveal the employers in episode three... maybe hint at them, but not like telling you everything about g-man and his perpective of things all of a sudden. Would somehow seme like quite an anticlimax.

If theres no mystery left surrounding G-Man, his whole character will fail.

Valve arn't going to reveal them. We'll get more info on the Gman and perhaps his employers. Seeing as Episode 3 is not the last Half-Life we still have a long way to go before it's all revealed.

And at the current rate, I hope it's within our lifetime.

If this extended period of development is due to a little writer's block, I wish Valve would maybe consider recruiting some writers like from 24 (the show on FOX) to help with the "big reveal" in EP3. Those guys are the ultimate pros at creating great plot line twists and turns, IMO.

I think the G-man story will be told be Half-Life 3. Not HL2 Ep3. I also think Gman is much more powerful than his employers. He's being hired out for what he can do. If his employers were "more powerful", they'd do the work themselves. In short, Gman own all. He = ftw.

Then again, this is also true in Gordon's case - he's being hired out (unwillingly) for what he can do. That doesn't make him automatically more powerful than G-Man. And besides, remember when the G-Man in EP2 says that he has "learned to avoid such naysayers when quelling them was out of the question"; this is in reference to someone (he doesn't specifically say, but I have the feeling it may be someone higher up than G-Man) telling G-Man that Alyx was of no use - the G-Man still has a leash on him from someone somewhere.
Also, the G-Man is able to get pushed around by the Vorts, so I'd say his power is less than absolute.

Eh. Yeah, I guess it makes sense. I guess I meant he has unique capabilites that they don't posess, you know? I had a few drinks last night, so the words didn't come out so well. About the Vorts though, I don't think the Gman is pushed around by them entirely. I think he could crush them if he tried, but, in Gman's swagger fashion, he never likes to lift a finger. They merely factor as an annoyance that he doesn't really need to deal with at the time anyways.

I'm not so sure. He seemed pretty pissed when the Vorts rescued Gordon from him. He also didn't dare talk to you until the Vorts were occupied with healing Alyx.

Same impression I got. If Gman's got employers, they don't seem to be controlling him very much.

Or they could be, but since their power may be well beyond our understanding, we might not know it's happening.

Isn't it obvious? G-Man's employers are the Illuminati, funded by the Freemasons. It's all about the money for G-Man. Once the job is done, he will have enough to buy a nice new suit. An Armani.
The Black Mesa Incident was a well-planned move on their behalf. They knew that they didn't have enough power to overthrow all the governments of the world at the same time, but the Combine did. Maybe they didn't expect the Combine to stick around, so they hired G-Man to get rid of the Combine.
Once that's done, the New World Order shall rise!!!! MWAHAHAHAHHAAAA!

Let's just wait and see what happens when it comes out which could be late this year or early next.

Uh oh...I smell another Nicolas Cage movie

Actually, from the gman's dialogue lines from hl2 to episode 2, it seems he is no longer under any employer, and now works freelance and for the highest bidder.

For example: the "ignoring opposition when quelling them was not an option" referring to him saving alyx vance at black mesa, hinting that the gman has rose in power between hl1, and 2.

Also, the gman mentions receiving (personally) offers for gordon services, and so on.

So I think the real question is if we are going to know who WERE the gman employers

This is a good point.

G-Man's employers were only directly referenced in the first game, but we've not heard a peep about them since. G-Man seems open to work with any one and doesn't seem to be on anybody's leash, unless there's some master umbrella scheme I have yet to see. It's possible he's on his own now. It's even possible they've were retconned out and he never had employers, referring to them only as part of his faux government official spiel at the end of Half-Life.

I thought g-man was just a mastermind with a bunch of henchmen that he sold for money, and whoever requested one of his henchmen's "service" they were his "Employers."

Gman makes me confuse.

"I wish I could do more than keep an eye on you, but I have agreed to abide by certain restrictions."

I thought I was missing something. It's vague, but it gives me hope.

I like the idea of G-Man having higher-ups.

He could be just a rogue agent, who knows.

OMG a G-Man theroy!

My theory:

GMan's Employers in HL1:

Dr Breen / Black Mesa / US Government
Ambitious scientist dude + Gov ignore ethics in hunger for learning + pursuit of new technology. It's a bit hackeneyed but then most things about the HL series are. Still great though so don't flame!

GMan provides the intial samples which allowed the development of teleportation technology by the Lambda Team, before the resonance cascade.

GMan's Employers in HL2:

Le Resistance

Barney to that fagg0t Kleiner:

"I don't know about you but I expected more warning"

Just after you (Gordon) show up. Fairly obvious meaning. They somehow contacted the GMan, or viceversa, and to strike a blow against the Combine either he or they suggested using you for this purpose.

Eli to you

"Yes bruvs, gnome sayin - its our homey right - gnome talkin bout?"

Eli aware of the GMan since Black Mesa. Eli and GMan struck some kind of bargain that he would bring you (Gordon) out of stasis to kick some Combine ass. Dunno what the GMan's side of the bargain was/is yet though.

Breen alludes to the GMan's mercenary tactics:

"Wassa matter bro, liek, you didn't know I can buy yo ass n sheet?!"

What's in it for the GayMan? Who can say....there's lots of mysteries still there. This explanation seems quite neat for me however and links all the relevant dots that we have so far together.

If theres no mystery left surrounding G-Man, his whole character will fail.

This. A mystery keeps its fascination as long as it remains a mystery. They can throw some bones, but unveiling it would destroy the mythos.

actually that dosent sound as rediculous as possible (apart from the crap about the suit), still It definatley aint gonna happen.

The Employers revealed in Ep3

Before you start reading id like to warn you that the following might contain spoilers of the following games in the Half-Life saga, if they somehow come true.

From what i have seen, it looks as if the GMan is testing Freeman for some sort of future task, or job that he has for him, so my guess is that Half-Life 3 will be about Freeman either going on a mission into some alien world, doing a job for the GMan, as his "Employee".

Alternative: Freeman will be freed from his contract with the GMan OR Freeman will be trying to free himself of the GMan, eventually hunting him down, like what happened in PortalSPOILER: GMan will turn out to be evil, trying to kill Freeman, Etc..., but i doubt that will happen, since, well that already happened in Portal.

3rd version: Freeman has done his work for the GMan, in which case i have no idea where Valve might continue on from here.

Ok, thats what i got to say, any thoughts? comments? ideas on what YOU think might happen? write here

They should only reveal a bit at a time about the g-man. To much will spoil it. I think it would be intersting to meet a colleague(working under the g-man not scientists). That could be interesting
