So, when do you think it'll be? And how will it happen? Global nuclear war resulting in a dystopian society slowly burning out like a bonfire in the wind a lá 80's sci fi movies? :borg:
Or are we going to pollute ourselves to death?

One thing i find kinda interesting is the year 2012. the mayan calendar ends on the date of 23rd december that year.. There's some bible code stuff that I've personally not looked much into but that speaks of asteroids and such on the same date as well..

6 years. Well, maybe it'd be pretty cool. You'd just have to try and have as fun as possible until that date.

Discuss, preferably without any dissing and cussing.

I dont think it'll ever happen. At least a portion of the population will live through anything and hopefully they'll be used to sustain the species.
 
Well, when we discover we'll all die, we'll have a MASSIVE orgy with riots and death everywhere.

Then we find out we aren't going to die and the world will be literally thrown out of balance because of all the new babies, resulting in being evaporated by the sun.
 
I honestly think and believe that the Mayan calander is correct in saying the ending of the world will be in 2012.

Plus, if I am not mistaken, Divinci's code also predicted the end of the world. I don't remember. I saw some show about cracking Divinci's code that was very awesome.

Hopefully in 6 years, I will accomplish everything I wanted to.

Maybe bush will build a personal rocket for him and a harem of women and that way we'll have a tiny group of people on the moon (or mars). But if they share bush's genetical qualities, they'll probably face doom as well.

2012 is the beginning of new human thought. The Mayan calendar ends on 2012. That's it :|.

But, humans will destroy themselves inevitably. Probably not in our lifetime, but in the next 1000 years or so.

If by humanity you mean humans on planet earth, then i'm not sure, but i think there could be humans somewhere else in the universe.

The universe is bigger than you can imagine, which makes me think that there is other humanity.
Elecrticity is not oil, we are not running out! Of electricity! (to the post above me) With electricity, we can do all kinds of things, and if we have to we can resort to mining on other planets and moons.

It's all going to end on 2012 because humans are obsessed with the idea for no apparent reason that there is an "end of times" on this year, because they are so obsessed they'll do something subconsciously stupid like start a nuclear war.

Lovecraft once wrote a creepy story about the death of the last person on earth thousands and thousands of years in the future. It was disturbing just because it was so myopic.

I don't think mankind will end for a very long while. Society as we know it...now that's a different matter.

(The amount of years that humans have lived/100) *5 more years.

Scroll Lock's useful. Go into Excel and press it. Locks the arrow keys to the scrollbars. Really useful for large spreadsheets.

There is no way you could live on Venus. You would get auto-owned by gravity. I'd rather go to Mars and take my chances with the Doom. We could play Last Man Standing only it would be real. No respawns :(

Actually, I believe its the pressure in Venus' atmosphere that would be the problem. The actual planet isn't all that much different than earth (size-wise).

And I don't have a clue what that story was called.
 
We will destroy ourselves, history has shown that and we have not, nor does it appear we have learnt from our mistakes.

It is unlikely we will ever reach the dizzy heights of galactic superpowers because we are so wrapped up in killing, maiming and destroying ourselves. The mythical madman, with his figure on the button is a figment of our imagination; the reality is we will simply end up destroying ourselves and finish as we started out as cosmic dust.


Wow...is that heavy, not really all you have to do is switch on the TV and watch in glorious HD as we go about destroying the only place we have to live.

Hey, at the end of the day, tomorrow, next week, next year, next century, our chances are slim.

I was reading a post on the facepunch forum where the guy said his professor has a degree in ancient cultures and told him the end of the maya calendar was to mean the coming of a new age, but was warped by christians to think it meant the end of humanity.

Humanity has been around for thousands of years and a lot of people here seriously think its going to end in the next 10 years..lol. I am honestly appalled at some of the crap you people believe. But hey, you all can believe whatever you want..
