In The Endless Forest you're a deer and basically the only thing you can do is walk through a beautiful (you guessed it) forrest. The woods are inhabited with other player controlled deer. If a player is offline, his/her deer is sleeping but if they're awake they are prancing around like you. You can't really interact since there is no chat or VOIP, but that's not really the point. It's relaxing just to walk around the forest a bit, look at the sights, run together with other deer. Some screens: click, click, and click. Got this from a Eurogamer article about freeware games.

Creepy, checking it out though. We need a HL2.net deer get together.

Um...I don't know why, but this sounds utterly ace. Gonna try it!

texture artist: hey, our engine doesnt really support that great of textures, or models for that reason...

lead dev: pff, cover it up with bloom!

that forest is by no means "beautiful" artistic maybe, but it looks like shit.

and my deer can launch misiles from the horns to kill other deers?

Doesn't look the best but it's okay for a distraction. I kept stalking a certain deer and changing its antlers, then laughing at him.

Needs more deers pooping and other deers accidentally stepping in it and having to find a river to wash it off

before a bear tracks you down and tries to kill you.

needs more killing, eh?

Please, don't give me that. From what I can tell the program is relatively crap. I don't see anything particularly artistic or clever to justify such a pretentious premise.

But if it's enjoyable and relaxing then to each their own, I don't care.

If you want to play a Deer game, play Deer Hunter 5. Simply awesome game, I could play that for hours. :D

is it just me or are the faces not deer faces?
Noone else here seen Princess Mononoke?

Eek, you're right! Deer with people faces are actually pretty scary to me.

That deer on the frontpage has got to be the scariest deer I've seen.

I was thinking the same thing.

It's a good idea for a game, walking around and taking in the sights. Unfortunately it looks like poop. Give me stunningly beautiful and detailed forest filled with trees, pools, waterfalls, caves, and loads of wildlife, and i'll walk around for hours.

I've always been a fan of playing games for the experience of being there (Ico) and would like a whole lot more of this. e.g. a mountain climbing game where you climb to the top to see the amazing view, not for a high score. Infact, the most fun I had with HL2 was wondering around and looking at stuff - the rest of the game almost felt like an annoying distraction.

Unfortunately it looks like poop.

Yeah, it's no UT2007 or Crysis. But keep in mind this is not a gamer's game. It's aimed primarily towards the non-gaming crowd and those people have a MX440 or some in-build Intel thingy.

2 Ghz processor (2.5 Ghz or equivalent recommended)
128 MB videocard (Radeon 9800, Geforce 4 or better recommended, no integrated graphics)

If it looked better I might have given it a shot. I see nothing really beautiful about the forest. And if the whole gameplay is "walk around" then I dont see much point in it.

No gameplay requires great graphics to be interesting
No graphics requires great gameplay to be interesting

But you are forgetting the third rule.

No gameplay or graphics require deer to be interesting.

one person should get to be a hunter.......and when you get shot, you turn into a hunter.....

They shoulda done this in the Oblivion engine. Probably would have been more entertaining too :)
