'The Event'

Yay, another tv show like flash forward. Whoop dee ****ing doo.

Looks really good IMO. Though I think it would be better as a movie. A series might be too slow and contrived in the end.

I gonna say its really well shot, the SFX's are top notch, and the actors are not very TV-ish either, and it has freaking TONY MOTHER****ING TODD.

Looks like FlashForward, except without a shitty lead actor, writing, editing, acting, or premise. Potentially.

Not a bad thing eh mate? ;)

I'm gonna say that be aliens for that blimey event 'em folks would shut up bout, I'll shit me pants if it ain't aliens.

It ****ing better be aliens or something equally awesome. If it's some lame Lost-style macguffin I'm going to be pretty mad.

BTW, don't you dare saying the premise of Flashforward is bad. They just failed to execute it.

First episode was ok-ish, will have to see a few more episodes before I make my judgement on it. That trailer was horrible so I had low expectations.

I like it. It's unraveling rather well. Very good cast and performances. No likable characters? Whatever. I suggest that you watch the other two episodes. Anyway. The production value is top notch. It has somewhat of a mini series vibe to it. So, that's an added plus. If you liked the The 4400 and Taken, this should be right up your alley then.

Now onto the plot...

They are clearly not aliens. They appear to be advanced humans from a distant future and they've traveled back in time to prevent some kind of a catastrophic event from happening. Hence the title. They're clearly the good guys. If they weren't, they could have just simply killed all of those passengers. I wouldn't be surprised if they wiped their memory though. As for the slight difference in genetics. Evolution, anyone? Either that, or altered genetics. Which would also explain their slow aging process. Not sure about the bad guys. Looks like they're doing all of those things just to get the truth out of the captives. They've held them captive for over 60 years and they got no answers so far. Everybody runs out of patience eventually and ends up resorting to drastic measures. I don't think that they are a separate group of time travelers. Why no answers from the captives? Well, maybe their plan is already set in motion to prevent the event from happening and simply don't want to take any risks by revealing the truth.

Actually, I think
that the assassination attempt on Obama, err, generic black president, WAS the event...they knew of it, and were attempting to stop it. Lends some credibility to the time traveller scenario you offer, though...

I like how the story of this show is actually fairly simple - they need to chop it up temporally to make it seem complicated.

Just got in to this because someone from work told me it was good. Actually a really good show. Added it to my DVR list.

No, it WASN'T. The event has got to be something far more catastrophic than that. Something that'll threaten all of mankind. Something otherworldly, me thinks. Maybe something that's inevitable. FYI they already changed the past just by traveling back in time. Not to mention the knowledge that Thomas shared with the military. hint* Fat Man and Little Boy hint* Ever hear of the butterfly effect? Whoever was the President in their timeline, it sure as hell wasn't Martinez. What would be the point of continuing the show if what you have suggested was the event?

Anyway. As for my theory. I think it's pretty obvious that they're from the future. Just look at the promotional material and title of the show. One of the E's reversed. Yes, it's backwards. As in, going back in time. But, for all we know, this could be just another MacGuffin. Like the island was in Lost.

It's pretty awful so far. The script quality seems the lowest of the low. I can't watch it without cringing and knowing exactly how each scene will end.

I would like it if they were aliens smart enough to have learned our language, synthesised our bodies to inhabit, studied our ways and manufactured our clothes...but I guess they're probably time travellers from the future.

Wouldn't that essentially be V? Except without the whole underlying motive thing... although, who knows?

I watched a decent amount of this but it didn't keep me gripped enough to make an effort to watch the episode or two I missed. Jumps around way too much, it's just annoying.

The very WORST thing about this was a poster I saw for it before it was released, it was a picture of the cast, very blurred and it carried the tagline "All will become clear." Serious facepalm. Has to be the worst tv promo poster i've seen.
