Our friends from Gamershell found that first DX10 game is just around the corner.
Back in September 2005, at the PDC Microsoft Conference, CryTek, developers of Far Cry, released a movie that showcased some of the capabilities of the Cry Engine 2 under DirectX 10 API: dynamic day/night cycle, fully interactive enviroments, sunrays and diffuse transmission, real time soft shadows, soft particles, interactive/destructrible enviroments, volumetric clouds, and advanced shader technology.

Courtesy of DocSEAL, we have the official version of the movie (hi-res version), along with a German video interview with Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, Sten Hübler, Lead Level Designer, and Bernd Diemer, Game Designer.

The game is named Crysis and will be shipping, as the first DX10 enabled game, in Q4 2006.

Waaaay ahead of ya

Great, now I have to spend another $1,000 on a new computer.

If it doesn't have a decent ****ing story like ****ing Far Cry didn't, I don't care how good the graphics are. I love how all of you orgasm over this, but when a console game with good graphics is announced, you're quick to say "Gonna suck" "Pre-rendered" "Gay"

Hahahahaha
That will not nearly be enough.
Think an ENIAC-price ticket.

Hehe I think all who's looking forward to this game has to. I wont be able to play that game for another two or three years :(

After seeing that guys head and that shead I can very easily say that PS3 graphics will suck ass compared to PC graphics.

Although all screenshots I have seen from both DX10 and the PS3 may not be in-game renders.

That head, is it supposed to be the quality of the ingame models ?
Sure doenst look like that if you compare it with the other player models :D

looks awsome but not enough to hype at all

That shed looks seriously real.
We really aren't that far from photo realistic graphics. Another 5-10 years maybe and we'll be photo realistic.

yeah, that shed pic looks real to me. i can't see how it's a game.

It's a game called Crysis... doubt it's Far Cry 2

It most certainly will be FarCry 2, I can't see them doing another game that looks exactly like FarCry but with better graphics on a new I.P..

Although Graphics mean jack in your gameplay stinks, which I thought FarCry's did. So I'm not really all that hyped.

Looks incredible, like the first time I set eyes on Pacific Assault's jungles (admit it! It was a good game!). But it also means I have to upgrade :( (Buys rev and and uses that as a cover up for not having a good pc)

Its not FarCry 2 They dont HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE A FarCry 2. Simple. ITS A NEW GAME!

I don't see why this suddenly makes the next generation consoles suck. They could run this fine (Actually, Crytek talked about PS3 and X360 development with Cryengine 2. link), we haven't seen anywhere close to the next gen consoles full potential.

I linked to this in the other DX10 thread, damnit, I knew I should've made my own thread before any of you guys did!
I CURSE THEE!:p

Anyway, the story seems like it might be even LAMER than Far Crys, apparently a military conflict escalates out of hand in North Korea between the People's Liberation Army and the US army, after an ALIEN SPEJSSHEEP crashes into the jungle!

Anyway, if this get good reviews, then you can count on me getting DX10+Vista..
But I'm still awfully worried about Microsofts decision not to have system backwardscompatability with previous DirectXs, oh well, I guess that's what they have to sacrifice when they to a huge rewrite of the DirectX API(10 is incredibly different from previous ones).

One of the good thing about DX10 is that MS are aiming to set a universal standard for GPUs, i.e., that all the GPUs will give you pretty much the same performance no matter which vendor it is etc, or which one produced it.

This will help developers hugely, by allowing'em to have to do optimizing for far less different hardware.:)

Also guys, this is not a DX10 only game, the game features an DX9 engine that will be able to run the game on current-gen gaming platforms, minimum being 2 Ghz processor and 512MB Ram, SM2.0 GPU.

Stay tuned to www.crysis-game.com for more info to come soon ;)

Far Cry was a great game withouth a decent story. When I first got Far Cry I never got time to think about the story, I only played it because of the graphics, physics and realism. The same will be with Far Cry 2 hehe :D

Garfield, IT'S NOT FAR CRY 2! GODDAMNIT!*Bitchsmacks*
Far Cry 2 will be made by Ubisoft, and will most likely be on the consoles too, whereas this game, is not Far Cry 2, but Crysis, a totally new IP that's owned collectively by Electronic Arts and CryTek, can you understand that!?
*Screams then take his daily heroin dosage*Ah.. that's better..

Heres part of the article. Haven't felt this anticipated for a game since Half-Life 2.

"The Story

An unknown object (not an asteriod because it didn´t cause enough) hits an island in the Pacific, and the North Koreans send their army to investiage the issue, and so does China and the US sends two carrier there as well. The tensions between the NK and US are close to a war, so the US starts a CovertOp and sends in Jake Dunn (our character) and a small team to infiltrate and investiage the situation on the island. He and his team make a HALO jump at night and unlike in NOLF, this isn´t a special level but we actually fall several miles thru air and the beautiful volumetric clouds and can steer our ´chute onto the island beneath us. There are no annoying level loadings and every object casts his own shadows which move accordingly as the times passes by just like in real life.

At first Dunn and his men are sneaking thru the jungle, listening to what the NK soldiers are saying, and investigating artifacts in a similar way like you can do in Condemned with a scanner and after sending it to your carrier you´ll receive ammo drops or weapon modifications.

..............

Page 30 (Picture description: Notice how the dynamic sun movement changes the "mood" of the exact location. In the evening the jungle casts long shadows and a moody scary scene while middays the jungle has bright vibrant colors. All pictures are not pre-rendered but actual ingame pictures.)

Although the first actions of you and your team are covert and sneaking, soon you will take good use of your arms (pistols, MPs, assault rifles, sniper). All weapons are 3D objects and can collide with trees or other solid objects, so if you want to actual hit your targets, better make sure your rifle is lined up properly. (the way it is explained, it seems that the game helps you to line it up automatically as well. thats my guess though)

More details on the physics

The physical realism in Crysis is very amazing and doesn´t end at at the guns, but every object that looks like it can be moved, can actually. The times when a single leaf/branch stops the player are definitly over. Actually almost every object is destructable. We are droping trees and crush fences, detonate houses and even "damage" grass and leave trail behind us as we go thru the jungle. As we crouch into the grass, we actually feel safe because unlike in Far Cry, the AI does not see thru the grass but it does notice unnatural movement of the grass, and starts to investage the area.

The weapons

Almost every weapon in Crysis can be customized. You can either mount silencers, scopes, lasers. Jake itself is a mod-able weapon, he wears a Nano Muscle Suit. This suit does not only give him some armour and enhances his strenght and speed but the player can actually move the suits energy to either increase the armour/shield, speed, strenght. You can assign hotkeys to this energy management system and quickly change the settings of the suit. For a retreat you´d for instance try to maximize running speed etc. The suit can also heal you but of course all actions with the suit cost energy, but after a while it re-charges itself.

Page 31 (the KI Koreans are smart, they re-group and attack the people in the "building" simultaneously)

The suit can also help Jake to sneak around (costs energy as well) as it can reduce his noises, but if you forget to turn it off and fire a loud weapon, you can see how you waste your suits energy.

Holiday on ice

An AC might be a standard item in almost every car, but even Jakes suit has one as well and it will soon save his life. Because the unknown piece from outer space is not an asteriod but actually an alien ship who want to terraform the earth into an ice world. In a scene all out of sudden the aliens fire their ships ice cannon and parts of the jungle are now iced. This happens realtime ingame, the level doesn´t reload or anything like that. We can see how the area gets iced further and further as the minutes pass by. Game designer Bern Diemer told us "there won´t be no pre-rendered video clips that pull the player out of tense and nervwracking scenes". (similar like COD I guess)

The enemies become allies

After the surprise attack by aliens, the US and North Koreans now are allies and try to fight off the threat to all humans together. You might be now wondering if NKs have no bad feelings about Jake all out of sudden? They do. In Crysis the former enemies don´t forget what you have done. A Korean general knows exaclty what you have done with his soldiers. Have you killed many of them, especially out of situations where you suprised them, he won´t co-operate with you completely and might keep imporant information for himself or even "hiddes" equipment or ammo. All major NPCs have this kind of "memory" in Crysis and with the right actions Jake can even end up in a romantic relathionship with a hot female soldier. The main plot isn´t affected by this but the various side plot increase the replay value of Crysis tremendously.

Page 32,,,,,,,, as before. Will be here in a while"

This article, is there any video or screenshots that shows in-game graphics etc. Is this the game that will be released this year ?

I especially like the carrier deck. Do you know what this game will be about.

I don't mind so much of the games coming out of EA, as much as I do their franchises
