I've never played HL before....because I bought the retail version of DoD....so I'd really like to know the full story of Half-Life, spoilers and all! Anyone have a link or would you just like to tell me here?

well if you must have the story her goes:
Gordo walks to the test chamber, and causes a resonance cascade. then he fights lots of aliens, kills many a marine and decimates his fair share of spec-ops losers. Then he travels to xen and kills a giant baby.
Really, the game is not about a "story" as in a plot that you can sit down and describe to someone (or get much enjoyment out of w/o having played he game) It's about creating an enjoyable experience for the player to go through.

I had a link somewhere of the story-line, I can't currently find it at the moment, when I do I will post it.

Thanks people. I kind of know a little about it, I had played the first few minutes of it before. Somewhere around after the explosion and you first see the G-Man on that catwalk and he walks away. The game looks so intriguing, but I really don't feel up to playing it. I'd rather just know some of the details. Sorry.

I suggest you play half-life 1, if you do, half-life 2 will be more fun I think, because you recognize certain humor or things, and also because it's the best game ever made :)

If you're just in it for the story, play with God mode on :)

I've tried playing the game 4 - 5 times; havent got past the tunnel sections ...I lose interest after about 10 minutes. I guess it's just too dated for me to enjoy.

I bought HL for DoD

The story isn't the greatest part of Half-Life. It's the way its presented without cutscenes.

You mean "on a rail"? It took me a while to get past that but once you've done it once it's easier the second time.

That will give you the entire script of Half-Life so you can look it up.

its got nothing to do with the story imo. its the memorable scenes and the black humour of black mesa that tends to give it a breath of life, and turn it away from the more traditional sort of 'shooting gallery' games we were used to (look at doom ffs).
my most memorable are right at the start: scientists falling in elevator, scientist hidden in the dumpster...and many more. thats why half life is the best game created to date, but hopefully not for long...hint hint valve lol :D
