The future: how can the community work with Valve in the future?

Hmmm I think that paying for mods is gone a bit overboard, but the rest are fair...

*tear in the eye* my first deleted post (I think, I never follow up my posts).

If a mod is good enough, and has as much content as a retail game then I guess paying for it would be ok (I wouldn't but some people probably would).

I think you people are taking all of this just a little bit too far. Valve are their own company, and they will run their own business. Buying their games and telling other people that they are good is all the support they could ever ask for - or want from - you.

Whether you get your cash from your parents or have them buy it with their credit card either retail or online, what's the difference? Most people that don't have credit cards are young enough that they need at least permission to buy new games anyways.

You're talking about Americans. Not everyone in the world has a credit card, adult or not. My mother doesn't have one, and neither do I. And I probably won't get one.

Let us not start an America flaming thread Cybernoid....

Now, about we helping Valve..... I think that the "hotline" taht Apos suggested would be a great idea, and I think that in a way, already exists. Most of the mods in this site get quick, clear answers on rumors from Valve.

Well, now as a fan writer, I think that collective writing for HL3 would be cool. Like Valve picking the best fanfiction writers and coop with them, in order to clear some stuff up to help them make it a mod, and in case everything matches up, just make it like a new CS, expansion pack. (yes, I know my fanfic sucks, would never get picked, but I like it)

Because simply assuming loads of stuff is getting more and more intrusive into the actual HL storyline, meaning that the things anyone writes now may be outdated by Valve a few years fron now on HL3.....

Whatever, just some ramblings...

I wasn't flaming, I was just saying that American's are more likely to have credit cards.

thats the best quote ever.

gonna be my sig on some of my regular forums...

im currently arguing with over 10 guys on why Historical accuracy will hurt RTW's (see sig) proffit.

its not the actual Historical accuracy thats the problem, its the fact that to include the level they want the game would have to be delayed by over half a year... thus costing millions more just to satisfy said 10 people.

Im not anti history
Im anti delay.

Bad idea, they have Marc Laidlaw for that...

I would be quite happy to buy mods if they are good and cheap
but valve must remember that some people will want to get mods and cant buy stuff over the internet.

wasnt very long ago I had to get my dad to buy me all my games mail order from gameplay. along with all of the - "havent you got enough games already" arguments- HELL NO!

thank god for visa electron and Amazon :p

I dont know how to get around this problem though.

I also think that the community could help valve by giving it some space.
And also by sharing models - how many times has an ak47 or M16 been modelled?

some modmakers should help by creating some mod "wizards" so amatures can mess about with physics and stuff - I have no Idea how this would work I'm just thinking that the closest I ever get to making a mod is using the warcraft map editor (badly) and there are lots of people with vision that cant mod for nowbt
