IO2 Technology's website (http://www.io2technology.com), which has Heliodisplay(TM) units available for direct purchase, demonstrates how a user can move the image of a watch in mid-air with their finger. Instead of a mouse, a viewer uses their hand (no special glove needed) to move an image, or a finger to move the cursor.

But then again, games developers and Hollywood would get use out of this. A 3D camera recording of a bomb or grenade blowing up, then add it to the game or film in real-time

The problem with this is that if the view of the cameras got blocked by anything (very likly IMO) then you would have an imperfect picture.

Well actually the way this works is that the device itself projects the image upwards from the floor/device into a column of essentially steam thus creating the image in midair. so... the only way to block the image is if you wave your hand around between the device and the image. you can walk around it completely without disrupting the image. however gusts of wind can somewhat distort the image, from perhaps a person moving too fast next to it.

and clearly it can only be small scale. i would like to see you build a billboard sized one of this, unfeasible at the very best.
