I see the havok physics engine being used in EVERY new game that comes out...except sports games and RPG's (Which they should really use it cause..it'd be awesome.) Anyway, I know that Vampire the masqurade Bloodlust will have Havok and it's an RPG....sort of. My question is....Other game developers are seeing how awesome this engine is and what it does to a game...so why aren't all of them using it?? I see Havok in games like I see Microsoft Windows on a PC...most people will use it. But I really think this has changed games forever.

I can't wait to see Havok used in every genre. It would be so much cooler to see tackles in NFL games using Havok rather than canned animations :)

So far, it hasn't really changed anything. It made Max Payne 2 look cool, and many other games just look odd as bodies contort themselves and stuff goes flying around crazily. Doom III does not use Havok, and from what the reviews are saying, it's very, very good. Heck, even Half-Life 2 isn't using just the plain Havok engine. It still needs quite a bit of work.

we'll be able to play a havok game on friday when the MoH Pacific assault demo comes out

Havoks future is bleak.

I'll tell you why..... ODE (open dynamics engine), its free, and its open sourced so you can modify it to your hearts content.... and if you are a game dev. with a fraction of what a havok2 license costs, you can have your own physics engine, as complicated or as simple as you want it..... just wait and see, it'll start picking up popularity rapidly.

There's all sorts of competitors too, like Meqon, and there's a really good free one called Tokamak that's been out for a while.

Havok needs to make some tweaks if you ask me. Right now deaths are just too...lifeless. It hardly looks like a person dying when you kill someone. They fall back completely limp. There should be some kind of tension in the muscles that Havok should try to get.

Yeah, they did that in some of the meqon demos. One good one was where a ragdoll would attempt to move it's arms to protect it's head when you swung it around.

Havok looks stupid in my opinion. AmishSlayer nailed it

doesn't AAO use the havok engine? wow, some of the deaths in there are really odd, like bodies that fall back on themselves. THEY HAVE SPINES. i'm sorry but soldiers just can't do some of those things (maybe gymnasts, but not even sf could)

ODE and tokamak are pretty poor at the moment so i don't really see them as competitors.

Meqon and Novadex are meant to be good competition.

I don't want these lifeless ragdoll thingies, I want animations mixed with physics to create more realistic movement and stuff. Like a guy falling backwards but surviving when being shot from a buckshot, and getting back up in a really realistic way.
