The Gate II, being (rather obviously) a follow-up to the popular The Gate mod, concerns a 'time gate' originally discovered by Rommel's Afrika Corps in Egypt, recovered in 2002 and shipped back to the US for experimentation. They've just released this new media (some of which may in fact be old, because the zip file sent here turned out to be empty).[br]

the M4 seems a little high poly, but the rest looks nice.

That's the best game model for an M4 i have ever seen

The M4 is waaaay over-normalmapped. It looks like it's made out of plastic :x

Other than that, looks great. Nailgun ftw

Wait a minute. Are we supposed to think someone modeled and skinned those players? That is 10 minutes of photoshop work on a couple of counter-strike models. If you go to their page, they've even used a phoenix faction guy.

I saw no reference to Valve's work other than the hint at the bottom of each picture that says "model and skin adaptation by" - so worthless. Plagiarism is plagiarism.

Yeah I saw the SAS model on PHL I thought it looked familiar, then I now see a ST-6 shot aswell. I like how they try and pull off like they did it.

That minigun seems a bit odd (how does it spin?). Other than that, ace job

Gotta love ten minutes of texture work on those models. Is that really worth showing off?

Nope, the mod won't even be worth playing. I can download similar skins and fire up counter strike whenever I want. I hope no one ever plays this mod.

dude, what is wrong with you? does nearly every post you make have to be so negative? get over yourself!

No. I ****ing rock. That's why I talk down on so much stuff.

Lol no he doesn't :p
First off: This isn't Counter-Strike.
Well that kinda destroys his entire argument already (The Gate 2= CS with new models).

Thanks for all of the support for the mod guys and gals.... unfortunately, there will always be a couple of those type of people who want to knock everything down, even though they have no right or are unable to think of anything nice to say. The Gate 2 is a MODIFICATION, thus there are models in the mod that are in the valve collection, but we will be taking those from CSS and adding it into The Gate 2. I see no point in spending several weeks making new models, rigging them, animating them, skinning them, just to keep flo-boy happy. But good to see that people appreciate the skin change... also all of the other models you have seen are originals myself or other team members have made and skinned.

To answer a question, the Colt M4 doesn't actually have a normal map on it, it is actual modeling and it has been skinned with a high quality photo of the actual weapons, also that was an image I took just after I had roughly skinned it, the model now has changed, including sights added and texture repositioning, but you can't get more realistic than mapping with a photo... thanks to all (even flo-boy) and enjoy the updates as they come out....

You're just making excuses because you thought no one would notice. I'd probably play this mod if due credit was given, but it just seems so unprofessional to steal and basically claim it as your own. And how is it not my right to say that's bullshit? For your information, I make my own models and skins, and yes, to toot my own horn, they are quite fantastic. You seem to have some skill yourself, so I just don't see the point of blatant plagiarism. Your mod would garner a lot more attention if it had more custom content, otherwise it will look and feel exactly like counter-strike with some strange weapons thrown in.

how about some examples? let us be the judge of that...

Something had to be said and I think Glo-Boy made it pretty clear. No offense to those working on this mod but I must agree with what Glo-Boy has said. I'm nobody special myself aside from an aspiring game developer, but from the perspective of some random like me who viewed your characters and your mod for the very first time 2 minutes ago, my first reaction was to be dissapointed by the fact that you simply took pre-existing characters and made a few changes. You can get away if its changed beyond recognition or if its things like say a sandbag or cinder block from CSS as it would almost be redundant to make onother from scratch and when it can be done in no less than an hour, but a full character? Please give credit where it is due.

Ps- You never know who will view your mod or this site... :)

it's not just thread. it's every post I've seen him make in here. he's soooo negative about EVERYTHING.

I almost got banned back in 2003 on here for the very same reason lol. Just uh...I don't know, ignore him? Doesn't this forum give you the oportunity to block people comments who you don't want to see? I agree with the truth behind his comments but I don't agree with his attitude that he went with them. But what can we do, its the internet.

Ignoring what everyone else said because i began to read the comments and they were either nice and don't need reiterating or just shockingly useless, almost spiteful. This thing looks awesome!

I had fun with The Gate in HL and i look forward to even more with the HL2 edition (I hope i'm thinking of the right mod :p, if not ignore me). The rifle looks awesome, ignore all nay sayers: it's beautiful. The reskinned models are a great idea, I recall a Mod for HL1 where you teleported to other lands fighting bad guys and there was a red russian barney. That was just a reskin, of an easier to produce HL model, and frankly that guy was like a whole new character to me and I didn't give a crap about its originality at all. He looked differently, he behaved differently, he was NEW. He meant more to me than the old barney for just how damn sweet he was. If you can adapt stuff rather than begin again, I say, you get points for initiative.

Good luck to you guys, keep up the good work, ignore the jackasses who feel like sticking their non productive, cynical oars in and let them ignore the creative output of the community. Just means more bandwith available for those of us who want to download stuff when we see potential.

:) It's good to see there is still hope for the HL2 Community after all, franky i though your breed died out when HQ mods started coming in, and everyone wanted high standard mods and with everything custom in the mod, i'm glad to see that Someone can see be on that :)

i ask you are you going see any SP mod thats going to do better if they tryed to make custom content, i'm not talking about the big player's like Black Mesa and others... i'm talking about a standard mod thats not so over hyped. tell me are you going to find any better?

My only problem is that the entire sites links work via javascript so i cant open sections in new windows.

Well thank you flo-boy for once again making yourself sound as intelligent as you proved yourself to be in your first post. Unlike yourself, I have no delusions about the mental capacity of the HalfLife 2 community, their visual acuity or neural development and in no way tried to fool them or try and slip anything by them. Unlike yourself, I don't "toot my own trumpet" and as Arrowhead so aptly said, better to allow others to judge the quality of our work.

As far as giving credit where credit is due, I give you full marks for stating the extremely obvious and then trying to make others look inadequate by pointing out your super powers of perception in spotting the re-skinned Valve models..... up, up and aw... burp..... lol....

Glo-Boy, I do hope you try to look at the positive rather than the negative and one day understand that some people are trying to do things for others, whether it be a mod to play, re-skin a model so someone else doesn't have to bone rig it, assign vertices's, animate it and UV unwrap it so we can keep everyone happy, for that will never happen. Look at the benefits in things rather than the things that might me not quite as good as you would like them.....

So this is just a CSS weapon pack? or a seperate mod? :cat:

did u edit valve player models at all ?

I think people are forgetting that this mod is not a Total conversion mod most mods arnt total conversion mods as it takes alot of work to do that, Just count yourself lucky that they are changing the models and not just using the originals.

Also i would like to say that i like the gun models nice texture use.

If they declared it, I don't see the problem. Website seems to be disagreeing with, mind... I blame my browser.

It's a mod, they're not demanding money for it, they've got lives outside of their development schedules: and someone tell me how adapting CS:S models is drastically different to, say, just using a reskinned Combine soldier? They're both Valve content :|

This forum is starting to piss me off. Can we maybe can the elitist crap and begin savaging mods only after we've had the chance to play them and expose them as gold/rubbish? Don't get me started on the Incoming: Source fiasco...
