How so? Half-Life was made on the Quake engine. Is there some other way it is connected to doom that I don't know about?

(and dont say, if it wasn't for doom there wouldn't be a quake. Unless quake was made off the doom engine, then NO, don't even try and say that)

I think he meant that HL was inspired by the success of Doom..
 
Doom is the typical "Shoot everething that moves"
HL2 is for more mature gamers. I'm moreinterested on the story to be honest. But the shooting parts in HL were so damn fun..
 
They lie to us and stuff, but where is the money in their pocket coming from? I don't pay for these forums or HL2 media. And WHO CARES if they lie and don't release the game, unless you get off your ass and go down and finish the game you have no right to bitch.

I leave for 3 hours to see I Robot...and am suprised to see this thread still exists. I dont blame the mods, i would get tired of closing all these pointless threads again and again. Maybe this is some kind of experiment to see how far we let these threads go...if thats the case we are failing miserably.

I am stating nothing but FACTS

1 - The public relations damage done to Half Life 2 over the lying and delays is not repairable. The game community is very fickle they do not stick with a publisher when they get burned. Other than the zealots like yourselves, everyone has moved on (Far Cry Painkiller and soon to be Doom 3). After seeing all these games in action, half life 2 ceased to be special. They needed to beat Doom3 to the market to be viable in this crowded marketplace. They knew this and blew it. Not everyone shares your rabid excitment for this game.

2 - Gabe lied to you all. They said the game was coming out 9/2003. It did not Lie #1 the source was stolen and he said that was the cause for the delay Lie #2. Now they say it is coming out in Aug. Lie # 3

3 - I can afford two 50.00 games. I have a respectable corporate job making $31,000 a year. With my salary I am sure I can afford a game.

The hostility here has been so bad it could only mean that deep down you know I speak the truth.

1) RagingHematom, I suggest you go to the Gamefaq's forum for Doom 3. You'd fit in with all the trolls there perfectly.

2) This is a HALF-LIFE 2 FANSITE. Not a DOOM 3 FANSITE ! What do you expect, coming in here saying Doom 3 kicks Half-Life 2's arse ? Flaming, that's what I'd expect !

People do not have a ton of money to buy two full priced games. When they have to make a choice they will choose Doom 3. Once because based on the 94% PC Gamer review, the game is amazing.

I have played Half Life 2 and it is nothing more than a glorified tech demo with neat physics. The sad thing is is that most games have that already. I mean, generally speaking, Painkiller was the first to the market with real time physics and antitrospic filtering. What is Half Life 2 doing that is so new to the market?

At least id and Carmack knew that they had to innovate with Doom 3. This is going to be the Resident Evil of First Person shooters. :imu: Definately a more exciting premise than a version of a 1997 game with better graphics.

The delays of this game are only rivaled by Duke Nukem Forever and HL2 is now the joke of the game industry. Its fanbase is already modding a game that has not even been released. That is why you fanboys are stereotyped as insecure nerds who would take a bullet for gabe. Stop putting money into his pocket. He is playing you for fools.

2. A joke or trick. Used chiefly in the phrase The jig is up.

The phrase is "the jig is up" not "the gig is up" regardless of whether or not the word gig exists. In your case, trying to show how Valve has decieved us all, it is a valid phrase... but you misspelled it. Trying to cover your error and say that gig is a term used for entertainment doesn't make sense. Everyone makes spelling errors, get off your high-horse and admit it.

Games are meant for fun. HL2 will be fun; Doom3 will also be fun. Whether or not valve has lied to the community (I personally don't see it that way) won't effect the overall quality of the game.

And the fact is around 9/2003 valve and vivendi seemed to say lots w/o talking to each other. It got real confusing for a while there. :rolleyes:
 
And how could you say Half Life 2 lost it's fan base. Look how many fans are on the members list.

We will see who ends up haveing more sales in the end.
