Why do you consider gay an insult as opposed to a statement?
What is your problem with it?
I mean honestly, do you understand that it's THEIR choice?
Does it affect you? no.

Really, I just read a thread, full of people saying stuff along the lines of 'FAG!one!!!!11one!!111" and posting pics saying: "Your gay" (not only is that statement immature, but it's also grammitically incorrect)

and I just thought... my god... why? Some people need to do some serious growing up...

Sorry for what ended up as a rant, I think I got a few valid points across there.

(and as for people who say: "it's cos they mite come on to me"... wake up... even if they did, it's a compliment... )

Your gay is the popular way of saying you suck. Its a fad, it will pass.
 
yeah... but still... I think it's basically the same as using a racial slur as an insult... plain wrong...

I believe because it is as he said a fad, it is also a cultural thing. When people say This is gay, that's gay, or "you're gay" (correct form of you're) it generally has no implications of homosexuality. But rather means bad or something unlikeable, as regrettable as this is for bad to be associated with said sexual preference, it doesn't mean homosexuality. Just like you can call a man a bitch, when it means a female dog or unagreeable lady, it can just be used in the form of an insult, regardless of the illogicity of the statement it can offend people and I suppose that's why it's used.

Also it's natural human behavior to dislike the unusual, I mean it's an evolutionary thing that weeds out what's different from the masses, you see it in any animals as well as people. (Granted it doesn't make too much sense relatively since pure homosexuals don't reproduce by definition.) I mean also some people find it offensive because they don't like what it represents, granted their are some who believe in the love holds no boundaries thing. Personally I don't believe in love so to speak except as a way to ensure breeding with a likely suspect despite the illusions some people hold, so basically to me it is offensive in the same manner as just shouting heterosexual would be at a dinner table. I mean it makes me think of breeding and genetalia in general, and being I am of a heterosexual perspective and do not find said images appealing it is rather unappealing. And quite frankly offensive having it shoved down my throat every time I turn on the tele or anything, I mean I can understand that they are trying to get across a preference, and I'm all for freedom to make your own choices, but it's just the fact that all it in essense stands for is mating that I find offensive. Just my opinions though.

Well, the reason that 13 year olds say it is probably because that we're immature(I'll admit it) and that we don't appreciate the seriousness of this "gay" calling. And as kids, we insult each other by calling other people "gay". To us, being gay isn't really "cool". But sometimes, if we call our friends "gay" we're probably just joking and teasing them.

Really sayiong some "is gay" is a very efficient insult since you're not only insulting the person but gays at the same time. It probably won't go away for a very long time.
 
You know, I once called a "gay" guy gay and that turned me into looking like an asshole.

and I agree, calling people gay doesn't even really mean gay anymore its more kindof "Omfg you're an asshole."
 
actually the biggest reason probably why most people say it is simply because of habit.
 
nw909 - Cause he is hormonally imbalanced, his balls have dropped, and his brain is starting to form and as our society decides everything for us from the time of our birth to teenage years it is rather uncomfortable and you become afraid of making change on your own, and you are unsure of yourself as most of your peers are, thus if one were to mature the rest would mock him (as I know personally) later the other immature little bastards and then grow up (mildly) during high-school and act like "Oh I'm mature now all is forgiven, Oh I had my fun mocking you but it's all better now and I'm such a selfish bastard who cares nothing about your ruined childhood as long as I had my fun and I should be able to enjoy all the benefits of maturity..." is the attitude they adopt... selfish typical capitalist spawn all of them they all deserve hell..

Or at least that has been my social life in our education system for trying to "grow up."
 
Some people just decide to say some random things. Or think "Hey,everyone's saying it! Why shouldn't I?"

Same with me, I don't cuss much, so I'm considered a gay loser. Not sure why.... Doesn't help my deppression much either.

Edit:what do you say to a person when they call you gay, I still can't figure out what to say. Usually I'm like uh no I'm not.
 
I usually come up with a smart answer with big words so they can **** off something like:

"Excuse me, It seems that you have you're facts misunderstood or are confused, but I am not a homosexual, If you would like I'm sure you could find others willing enough to fullfill you're sexual hunger but I am not the one."

Or I could just throw them into a wall or something...

Well you could always just confuse the hell out of them. Like after they say GAY, just yell, "would you like fires with that?". It should get them thinking and probably stop them in their tracks for a minute or 2.
 
Or they could ask you if you are gay, then you could say:

"Bend over and lets find out!"

Seriously, gay being used as a generic insult can get on my nerves sometimes although I do realize most people mean nothing by it. Although it's really no different than if people said "That's so Jewish!" or "That's so ******!". If you were a balck person or a Jewish person would you love hearing that 100 times a day? I think most people don't really realize or pay attention to what they're saying. The stuff that really bothers me to death is the people who hate gays, that pisses me off more than anything. Despite what some people believe we have no choice in the matter, at all. If I had a choice I would not have chosen to be gay, TRUST ME!!! I can't help what I love. Why would anyone want to deny me love and happiness because I like something different from what they like? Liking guys is a natural thing to me. I have been that way since birth and those who wish to deny me my natural needs and wants can just rot in hell!

Edit: Sorry to rant about it. Just had a real bad couple of days.
 
I blame the goddamn people who use insulting words as part of their everday vocabulary. They may have picked things like that up from TV but most of them know damn well what's right and wrong and should be held responsible for their own actions.
 
You don't honestly think a child can account to any of this? Blame their parents for letting them pick trash off tv, blame them for letting them talk trash, blame them for not monitoring their activities (especially online), I blame parents for everything. You don't have to be a psychiatrist to figure this out; kids aren't responsible for their actions, that's what defines a child.

to put my two cents in, I';m just gonna say that its lost all meaning as "homosexual" when you say somehting is gay. nothing new to say. Except in my "clique" as it were, but thats because one guy always does literally gay things. and my friend always calls his bluffs. and luckily we stop them before they go too far ;P

we ARE all straight. no. really.
