The History Channel is becoming more and more droll... and uninteresting to watch.

For starters, they now have probably 500 different "Ax Men" themed shows... showing guys chopping down trees and shit. And if it's not "Ax Men" themed shows, it's "Ice Road Truckers" or some other shit. And beyond that, a huge portion of their shows also focus on UFOs, and treat them as if they are entirely legitimate usually.

But that's only half the problem.

The other problem, is that most of their shows center around either Hitler or the Bible... which makes the channel really more aptly named either The Hitler Channel or The Bible History Channel.

I mean really... there are a tremendous number of shows focusing on the Bible on the channel... and probably even more focusing on Hitler. Hitler is certainly an interesting part of history, but they're really overdoing it... and certainly there's a lot more interesting historical shit than the Bible... many of which would actually be more legitimate than some of the stories in the Bible. I get incredibly sick of watching the channel when I flip to it and there is a show titled something along the lines of "Armageddon: Unlocking the mysteries of the Bible Code", which gives more air time to morons who think the Bible Code is prophetic than it does critics. They show like one critic guy, and then they show like 20 guys who pounce on that guy's completely logical reasoning for why the code is purported to work and thus bogus.

There are a few saving graces on the channel... Modern Marvels has always been incredibly interesting. And I always enjoy installments of The Universe... which is a supremely intelligent show and is always interesting to watch. How the Earth was made is also of some interest.

I used to watch it for WWII shows and Mail Call. I miss you Mail Call.

Yeah, Mail Call was pretty amusing, though I didn't watch it very much. The Gunny is a cool guy.

They still have WWII shows, but they mostly seem to focus on Hitler now, rather than all the other cool stuff from WWII. My first experiences with The History Channel were with my dad watching it and always enjoying the WWII shows.

I always loved the WWII ones where they actually had actors doing scenes on the battlefield. I never liked modern marvels much and now they show that 24/7.

Shit man, are you kidding me? Modern Marvels is one of the greatest shows ever! The narrator's voice really makes it work really well.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I keep using it? I don't remember when I used it last except in this post, but that could be the case.

And you could be right. I actually stopped and was doing a dictionary search before making the post, but got distracted and didn't end up doing it. lol

Thanks for calling me out on it.

EDIT: ROFL yeah, I'm not using it correctly. Not sure why I thought to use it. I was trying to think of a different way to say dull, and droll came out, but it's certainly not what I meant.

Whenever i hear that word, I always picture in my head two old snobbish ladies with their mink scarfs around their necks with eyeglasses on the edge of their nose looking at each other incredulously and then back at whatever they're looking at and saying, "How Droll" in that terrible monotonous voice.

Inconceivable? I thought it was appropriate to the movies forum. Somebody help me out here. Stern?

BUMP.

The History channel needs to be ****ing renamed!

I'm getting sick and tired of trying to watch something educational on the History channel and seeing nothing but UFO, Nostradamus, and End of the World shit.

This channel has become a huge purveyor of mystery shit, that it has more in common with the sci-fi(Oh, excuse me... the SYFY channel... retarded) channel than anything with educational value like say... Discovery.

There are a few shows I still watch, but it's mostly just Modern Marvels, which still remains remarkably informative and enjoyable to watch and very educational. I wish they would just move that show to Discovery and ****ing rename History channel already. And maybe take some other shows of educational value, like... The Universe and How the Earth Was Made.

It's become nothing more than a Bible pushing, UFO gazing, Nostradamus admiring, 2012 terrifying shit fest.

Pawn Stars?
Nostradamus Effect?
MysteryQuest?
Clash of the Gods?
MonsterQuest?
Gangland(I once enjoyed it, not anymore. All it does is glorify)?
Ice Road Truckers?
UFO Hunters?
Life After People? Seriously what is the point of this shit?
Ancient Aliens?

EDIT: Guess I'm not the only one who feels this way. Found this on wikipedia.

The History Channel has also been criticized for paying too much attention to non-historical subjects such as UFOs[5] and for spreading disinformation about Nostradamus,[6] as well as for playing a major role in propagating the 2012 Doomsday prediction myth,[7] usually with scant reference to established scholarship,[8] with the result that it has also been dubbed[9] "The Mystery Channel" or "The Pseudo-History Channel", as well as "The Hysteria Channel."

They should invest in doing a comprehensive Ost-Front series of shows. Eastern Front ftw.

(i don't have the history Channel)

I actually do call it the Hitler Channel. I will say to people "I saw this interesting documentary on Tiger tanks on the Hitler Channel last night."

"I saw this interesting documentary on Tiger tanks on the Hitler Channel last night."
In all the times I've seen stuff on tanks on History, there is nothing they tell the viewer (disregarding factual errors) that I haven't already read on the internet.

The other day I tuned in to a show called Shootout! which shows oldschool gunfights. That's still a cool thing to watch on the History Channel. They even had a guy trying to recreate old challenges set by marksmen in the Old West.

That sounds like their Marksman mini series or whatever it was called. Shootout! I thought featured historical events surrounding guns, like police standing off against suspects. The only one I saw though was the one on the North Hollywood shootout.

Shows like that are fine... though they still tend to focus on the past 100 years and never anything further than that.

All this UFO shit and other stuff should be on another god damn network, or they should move out the good shows and rename the channel.

The Hysteria Channel, from that wikipedia entry, seems like the best fit. So much fear mongering on the History channel, especially with their doomsday and disaster shows.
