Any proof? You are talking about something that happened a millenia ago.

In my usual greatness, I proclaimed "Veni, vidi, vici". Then, people looked up at me and were like "huh?".

so,

11/09/2004 : AntiAnto the Great conquers halflife2.net right after joining.
26/09/2005 : Everyone learns the fact that hl2.net was conquered.

I remember my first months, I always considered Abom to be this grumpy gay who always closed my threads. I thought that he was the owner.

Hi2u!

:p

Anyway, as Tr0n mentioned, those puzzles that Valve set for us were good times... the whole community practically contributed to attempt to get further. I also remember when we cracked something, or a new snippet of information was released, a 100-page thread would spawn practically overnight. Crazy, crazy times.

Axyon is such a weird name...everytime I see axyon I think of some deodorant or body spray. Abom was sooo much better.

Hell I still haven't changed my nickname yet. :D

The test threads, i was here for them, that community effort was fantastic, and they way people converted pictures though different filters on photoshop looking for clues, and using rot13 or whatever its called to look through codes, for usernames and passwords. That was so much fun, how i do miss them all! (and the photo of valves whiteboard! hehe)

Theres still the unaccounted for members too e.g. Shuzer, what happened. nw909, brian damage etc...

I think Brian Damage retired from the forums, I think the rest just simply got banned ;)

I will contribute with a screenshot from the early days of the forums. The story behind it if i remember correctly is that Farrow and me had and religeous argument or something. Then i made this..

battlefrank and the guy that wanted to make a homie mod of HL2 (forgot his name although I read that thread, damn :/)
Good times :D

Edit : I'm trying to archive right about every major historical event of HL2.net

Shuzer is stuck between WoW and this thing called real life, he decided that after all the noobs joined, it all went to shit.

Back then, with the tests, when a valve employee posted, that was when it was all good.

I don't know what to say, this forum was good before Hl2 came out...

Link!!

The tests were much better than the php. Can't be arsed finding the link, search Nes forum for "Valve Tests".

Good times indeed. And now we have this...

Yeah, that was great. I never actually posted their myself, because I was a bit shy, but I followed it all :)

What do we have... newbs in infinite numbers, soon there will be no more old members left, then the forum will be a wasteland, the intergral part of Hl2.net - the people who make it great, will be gone.

MAKE YOUR TIME!

The AWESOME people tend to keep in contact anyways, through other means not HL2.net related.

Yes I am awesome, thanks for telling people that Angry Lawyer ;)

/me smokes his pipe and sits back in his porch rocking chair.

Ahh the good old days. When HL2 General Chat was the most interesting place on the forum and it wasn't because of constant flaming.

When "mrBadger" (now Comrade Badger) and EVIL were having a race to see who could get to 1000 posts first without blatantly spamming.

When the Steam cache files were cracked (by Chris_D was it?) and we discovered we had a video of HL2 hidden on our computer because we had no idea that Steam was pre-loading things to us.

When 1000 total members was considered a milestone.

When anyone who had not registered in May 2003 was considered a new guy here.

When the Arena was still going strong and we all took turns attempting to destroy one another.

When Gabe first e-mailed an individual member responding to a question about HL2, starting the creation of the Valve e-mail thread which resulted in hundreds of e-mails written to Valve and getting a response being posted in that one thread for all to see. Even a few major gaming websites and magazines either talked about the thread itself or gleaned a lot of information on HL2 which was inside that thread.

When our first and only forum troll was THUGENSTEIN, which IIRC Axyon absolutely hated.

Yup those were the days. :P

Heheh, yes, I remember THUG. Right at the start of the forum he made a little list in his sig of who he hated and who he thought was 'cool'. When I got my powers, he found himself getting banned over and over again ;)

Also, mentioning mrBadger brings back the hilarity of the event leading to his name-change... :naughty:
