The HL2 Crossbow

Does anyone else here think the crossbow looks lame??? Why is the bolt all orangey glowy like that??? And where is the point at the end of it??? There is none ... It's just an orangey glowey piece of something ... *sigh* ...

because its a crossbow, crossbows shoot bolts not arrows, bolts dont have points at the end.

the eyepiece has a nice reflection, i wonder if i has a realistic reflection of the surroundings...

and im not sure if it is just the quality of the image, but that bow looks really good, almost homemade. and it looks realistic, probably the most realistic thing ive seen in a pic yet.

i for one, am not complaining :D

oh, and Half-Life 2 blood kicks Halo 2's bloods ass!!!!!!!
(i will find any flaw in Halo show that Half-Life 2 is better)

^and brew is that true? i never knew that.

If it anything like in CS:S its a set image base on where you stand and how you face and not a real reflection.

It's actually a cube map. If you check out the SDK documentation, they explain how it works. It's not realtime reflection, but it's close, and thank goodness. It's fast and looks sharp.

^sounds good enough to me

and how does a rod fly? wouldnt i need a rounded or sharp tip for aerodynamics or stababilty?

EDIT: heh, spiffae you sure are up late :D

from some illicit prima guide scans, i guess the bolt will drop over distance now... so we'll see how that goes.

and it's only 1:30 AM here. I still have plenty of time. Usual bedtime = ~3:00

i've gotten pretty used to about 5-6 hours of sleep. i love the late nights. I live above some bars, so especially on thursdays and weekends it's not really worth going to bed before 2 because of the people outside.

Um, no, oftentimes they do, actually. Go look them up on the internet.

They look especially cool with hunting broadheads on them.

I reckon the crossbow looks like it does because it's some whacko resistance member's homemade thingamyjig that Gordon just happens to get his hands on...

Which also explains why you can (probably) find ammo for it just lying around in weapon lockers and so on. :imu:

Hmmm... as in it was made to fire things found lying around, or some easily obtainable stuff not usually used as ammo?

I heard it gradually changes orange from black, as it get's electrically charged.

The pic looks like it contradicts that. Look where the arrow "magazine" would have been on the original HL crossbow...there appears to be another bolt with that same orangish color as the one already loaded.

Maybe, to take Brian's idea a little further, the crossbow is made to melt down available material on the run and press it into crossbow bolts. After all, crossbow bolts don't seem the most likely of ammo to be found in a place like City 17. That would explain the orangish hue of the bolts, too...they're still hot from being made.
