Does it not depress you somewhat if you consider that if you're like me, Half Life was the last truely great game you played, and you've been waiting since '98 for a sequel, that you may have another long wait ahead once HL2 is over?

Hl3 should be on the same engine, at least i think i read that. which mean hl3 in 2 yrs or so maybe?

Ya hl3 will use Source engine doesnt mean it will look the same. Valve said they will keep updating it. The cool thing about sourc/steam is they can make it look like unreal 3.0 over time.

Well duh, any engine can be updated. Eh, I don't know. I've played many great games. Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament, Viewtiful Joe, etc.

Sequels are nearly always an anti-climax, and are prone to destroy the memory of the original. I say NEARLY always - MTW being spectacularly good.

Halflife wasn't the last great game, there have been a few more since, Morrowind and MTW springing immediately to mind - and after HL2 is just a memory, there will be more before HL3.

That would be commercial suicide for Valve.

Adding lots of polygons is done by modellers, not engines.

Yeah a sequel to HL2 would be a silly idea!

Source is like the unreal engine, they can just keep upgrading it to match hardware trends and get the best possible graphics.

the half life series is a trilogy, stated by valve in interviews, dunno bout linkage, but there will be a hl3

They can add new shaders.. I don't mean making new shaders based on the current system, but say direct x 10 comes along, they can swap in the new shader coding part of the engine.

They can add other things too but if you think everything is based on polygons, your absolutely wrong.

No, a sequel within two years would be a silly idea.

The shots I've seen of UE3 look like they just used lots and lots of polygons.

don't think it would derpess me because there is this little thing called the rest of the world and life out there.

far cry was pretty great ... and morrowind as mentioned above, ooh and DoW...

Ahh, once the level editor is out I'll me able to entertain me for a year or two. =) And there will be other game during the development of HL3. =) Damn, first time I wrote that, felt wierd. =)
