i heard that it has been removed or something?

could someone explain a bit more...

None of us know yet why it was removed but it should be explained in the "Raising the Bar" book. It probably just wasn't working to their satisfaction so they took it out rather than spending time making it work for little gain. Might have been a boss that we would only see once.

dude...are ALL of your posts just silly little short phrases?
I said something else but edited it because it was already mentioned. :| And that is the story. The end.

little gain? I think it would be extremely awsome to see. :(
What I meant was that there was probably some little aspect of it's behavior that was such a bitch to code that it would have taken them a lot of time to make it right. For example, it's attack might have worked just right unless there is an object of a certain shape between you and the hydra, then it looks wrong. Little things like this can be very time consuming to fix and not bring much gain for the effort.

The hydra sure looked cool, but Valve would rather have everything work flawlessly, and if the hydra was too hard to make work, they would rather just not use it than have it with some errors.

I now doubt it will be explained in the book. In the last post Cliffe made, he mentioned that "David Hodgson is no longer the author, as any narrative detailing logistics has been dropped in favor of a more in depth 'behind the scenes, making of' narrative straight from Valve developers."

I don't know what exactly was dropped, but it all sounds a bit too fishy to me. I'm afraid they won't go in depth about the thefts or the scrapped stuff like this and multiplayer...

So all of Hodgsons work on the book has been dumped? Or did he work on some other book as well?

Who is David Hodgson? I thought it was from Valve developers the whole time?

Whoever it's from, it's obviously still going to be biased and won't have every bit of TRUTHFUL information in there.

I dont see the problem, we saw it for about 6 seconds and in all honesty it was hardly a decent enemy design, just 3 large tenticles.

woopie.

Not pessimistic, just REALISTIC. They won't be putting any of the bad stuff they did to Vivendi, it'll all be about evil Sierra and Vivendi being the anti-christs. Why would they publish something that mocks and makes them look dodgy?

That biography book will be a new testament bible, or something coming out of the heart of stalin russia.

umm...i thought Vivendi WAS evil? they are french, after all. (apologies to all my french friends in these forums)

Since when was the Hydra taken out of HL2? As far as I've been able to tell, people have just assumed that it's been taken out since they haven't seen it since E3 2003.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a source?

Cliffe confirmed it on these forums. Do a search for "Hydra", it's not hard to find.

Interesting. I sort of agree with groovy, there's something sinister at work here. Poor old Hodgson. Imagine getting anally shafted like that? That would suck! Kind of reminds me of the musical developers Valve played with CZ.

"No you suck , you're fired, next"
"No you suck , you're fired, next"
"No you suck , you're fired, next"
"No you suck , you're fired, next"

Cliffe said that the scene with the Hydra only worked after heavy scripting , so if you would play that scene you couldn't get in the way and it will always be the same , like if you would stand in front of the Hydra and the combine soldier was behind you , I guess that the they hydra would go through your body and spear the combine, or any other stuff you can think of that will cause this scene to look bad and buggy.
