The industry wants to ban mods!

That's just stupid. And ties in with all the other stupidity going on with this type of thing.
Stupid stupid stupid...

Haha.

Yeah right. That'll NEVER happen. Think about it.

Full-proof copy protection has thus far proved to be all but an impossibility. Making a game so airtight that it is impervious to modding would be even more difficult.

I don't really understand what the issue is here. It seems like the same as illegally downloading music from these numerous P2P Programs.

Making a Mod shouldn't be illegal. I personally think it's helping boost sales due to people wanting these mods.
What are they talking about? The world would be pretty dull without user-created Mods. :|

lol modding will never get banned modding extends the life of the games

Can you imagine the hl2 community's outrage if mods became illegal? HL has always been about the mods..

That'd be wrong. If a company creates a game and endorses mod making then why should the government have a say in such a thing? Its that company's property.

It's like banning audio equipment, because someone could sing some rude lyrics over a song and record it.

It's not impossible (its quite easy actually) but it's really feckin stupid. A developer would never want to limit modding capabilities, it's just stupid. If they did it, it would mean they are arrogant and proud.

Without mods, there wouldn't be CS right now.
/me hates all the modhaters.

Then why is it so hard for them to develop halfway decent copy protection?

There will always be a way in.

So the GTA games aren't gonna have mods. Big deal. It's a stupid game anyway.

Congress doesn't see that though, nor do they care.

They simply see that you can cause some pretty bad stuff and it should be gone.

This is stupid, and won't go through... Like an EA employee said, "If I scribble on the side of a New York Times, are they responsible for what I write?"

I think this Hot Coffee is going to far! It should just have been "Okay GTA gets AO rating until you remove this... Done."

Valve would sue the Government. The guys who made Counter-Strike are on the team, are they not? And there is a reason they made Source so easily modable.

The problem with GTA wasn't the modding, it was the content Rockstar put in to start with. Preventing modding is the wrong answer and I can't see it happening.

Oh god.
Once again... People. suck.
It's all Jack "Never saw any tits or ass in real life." Thompson's fault.

That's just retarded.

Why is this in the HL2 forums? Does nobody (even the moderator) care? I'd rather have it in the proper (general gaming) forum, because I'd like to know about this and I rarely visit the HL2 forums, as I don't play the game anymore.

I just posted the page here because this seems to be the most active board, that's all. Move it if you wish, mods (no pun intended).

Ban mods? Ban us? Haha. Let them try. We'll never stop modding, just like they'll never stop whining.

lol, too true man, too true!

damn whining bitches

Nobody stopped the pirates 'til this day, nobody shall stop the modders as well! Anyways, it's mainly GTA because all kind of retards play it and then make sick perverted mods for it like Hot Coffee and alike.

fixed.

Ridiculous. Utterly, utterly ridiculous. Stop people from making their own films, writing their own books, why don't you?

Most successful modders are hired by Valve. That's what makes it so diverse and so great, they're getting newer coders/artists/writers because they themselves have been working on the engine with their own mods and ideas. Great stuff, and it gives mod teams a hell of an incentive to work harder :D

There will be outcries not just from the community but from the developers and publishers

The thing is, piracy is breaking a law. Modding isn't. I don't see them having a leg to stand on.

Like a Government has a right to tell a games development company that they can't let people mod their games. Nothing will come of it.

plus that'll just piss us modders off and we'll keep doing it and be even more hardcore about it

Exactly, its not like it was a user created mod, and if it was, then it defenitely shouldnt be illegal.
