The iPad???

So does anyone actually see a use for this thing?

Step on up, don't be shy.

Honestly, with attachments you could use it very easily to take notes on in class or on the go in a presentation. If they hack it to use your wifi/bluetooth connection, you can use it as a remote for various devices. Depending on the SDK, you'll probably be able to do a lot more than plausible at the moment. No one has really looked into how far the SDK has been updated or if it's just the iPhone SDK updated to add iPad support. Sure e-books and such, but that shouldn't be the selling point for this device.

But... to be honest, in my every day life, there is absolutely no damn need for this. You make a tablet to be able to be completely portable. The touchscreen typing would be the most uncomfortable thing ever. If they actually decided to revolutionize the device, they could have at least given you the option on what to do with the keyboard. A split keyboard would probably be the best option on this device. I don't want to lay it down when I want to type in landscape, and I don't want to have to hold it in one hand to chicken peck at this thing.

Also, I've had an iPod Touch since it came out, and I can't imagine the point of using this device... with a bigger screen. AHHHHH. I just can't fathom who would spend 800 dollars on this for the 64 GB and 3G when you can get a completely FASTER Macbook for the same price with... 20x better specifications and the ability to use OSX or Windows 7 or whatever.

Maybe when they start getting released and the hacking scene gets built up for it, we'll see some true potential, but if it's going to be locked down to Apple's monarchy and only allow certain features like the iPhone/iPod Touch, then this device will be just a completely niche device.

big waste of money like I said the $300 price point is where most people stop when they buy something like this. i'm now sad that i've seen that price sheet

I think the real question is, will it blend?

What a useless product, neither a giraffe or an elephant. It's something in between and lets be honest...we don't need a giraphant.

It's a two inch clitoris. Just because it's a bit bigger than its smaller original doesn't make it better, but it's not quite large enough to qualify as a fully fledged penis either. What's the use for a two inch clitoris?

Are you joking.

That isn't very convenient. And it's not like I carry a backpack around with me everywhere to hold that massive thing in, and I wouldn't want to carry it around. My ipod touch, however, sits very nicely in my pocket and does everything I want it to.

Its a lot easier to manage than a laptop. I'd rather have one of these than a laptop tbh. Of course, I don't mean an iPad, because it doesnt do shit, but an actual slate tablet pc would be nice.

Are you joking.

Not everyone knows what to do with a two inch clit Vegeta. Just because you do, doesn't mean you have to mock the rest of us.

Omitting question marks conveys how serious I am. I think.

You guys are all staring at the tree in front of you and missing the elephant, or is it a forest? Anyways, the big deal isn't the hardware, it is the delivery of content. Apple isn't selling you iPads, they are selling publishers a new piece of market share.

Getting this when it comes out.

Remember a silly little thing called the Wii?

It definately isn't another iPod or iPhone, although that's not enough to call it a failure - it just won't have a tsunami-like impact on popular culture and dominate the market for years. I'm interested in seeing how Chrome OS will do at the end of the year by comparison.

I can't imagine getting this over a proper laptop or netbook, though; the lack of connectivity and openness just seems silly to me.

I don't think it would be very comfortable to use on something like a train.

You'd be fumbling to hold it up with one hand while the other taps away at it's keyboard, if the lack of privacy isn't enough (Unless you're holding it up directly infront of your face with your back to a wall) you look like a spaz smacking a book or something from a distance.

EDIT:

I'd move this to Hardware/Software, maybe?

My very discerning and very respected software dev coworker was prepared to buy one even before he knew what the price was. He wasn't able to give me a good reason why though.

The position you have to sit in and the glare on the screen will be enough of a turn-off for me. Apple needs to find a less blinding material for the screen.

I agree that this sort of thing won't be very useful until some cool apps or mods come out, or until PC tablets are made. Once people start jailbreaking this thing, there will be loads of potential for it.

EDIT: also, only 10 hours of battery life? Really? And that's only if you're not doing much on it.

Shit, I just found where to buy a stylus that works for the iPhone and only costs $15. Nice find IMO.

"HEy guiz wanna see my screenplay that I'm writing right now?"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I bet Bostonians are having a hell of a time passing on this news story by word of mouth as "pod" sounds too much like "pad" with their accent.

Like I said earlier one use I could see out of it is creating some sort of mod or app to turn it into a smart-home remote to control lights, thermostat, TV, entertainment systems & blinds. It'd be interesting to play with.

I'm sure later on there will be such apps or more functions.

Another solution for a problem that doesn't exist. How does apple do it!

I saw this on TV in passing and thought it was a joke! I can't picture someone holding one of these things and not start laughing!

Female clitorese...clitori...clitarati(?) will naturally get bigger through evolution anyway. Natural selection will produce women with clitori which are larger, longer and even more sensitive.

And a woman's ability as well as her to desire to self stimulate will increase expanentially, as sex is robbed of its procreative utility.

And I thought this thread was about the iPad...?

Haha not if the people running our very lives have any say in it.

They want to devolve you into diseased bags of meat smart enough to fill out paper work and run their machines.

Mating will become a procreational ritual, there will be no such thing as a family.

You will be separated from your mother at birth.

I like some Apple products(i-Pod, books, and phones) but this doesn't make any sense to me. I don't know why anyone would buy this.

Natural selection is already happening. People marrying only pretty people is a bad thing, too many kids in the future with perfect genes. We're, without realising it, creating a natural form of genetic alteration of the human species.

All the fugglies will become extinct.

Or will have to live under a bridge.
