I got my 16GB 3G in black today :D Was expensive but I think its worth it :) I need to get a case and screen protector as this thing is a finger print magnet! Any suggestions?

Also, is there any apps etc that are worth checking out? Also ive read a bit about jailbraking the phone? Ive got firmware 2.2 currently, am I able to do this with it?

Get games.

You will find they are much more fun than on the DS because you don't need a silly stylus or buttons.

Just your finger and a tilt sensor.

Ya really worth it. Makes life a lot easier and i hate phones..

i see you opted for the iPhone. good choice.
apps: last.fm or pandora if you like music

On my iPod Touch I have:

  • Tap Tap Revenge - like some kind of guitair hero
  • m-Box Mail - for checking my Hotmail, not free.
  • eBay
  • PayPal
  • Facebook
  • RDP - control my computer screen from my iPod Touch
  • Crash Kart
  • MiniPiano
  • iPint - turns your phone into a pint and is quite clever
  • Monkey Ball
  • aSleep - plays sounds which help you get to sleep
  • Memory Stick - transfer practically any kind of file over wireless onto your phone
  • BubbleWrap
  • IM+ Lite
  • Flashlight

congratulations on getting the crappiest device since the powerglove. the iphone is a ****ing joke

The Powerglove wasn't a joke!

It just wasn't as cool as it was meant to be. Blame marketers for that, not consumers. ._.

The iPhone is awesome - a few things I like about it so far..

The touch iPod - Yea I could of got this seperate but as I wanted everything in one place then this is perfect.. so responsive too.
The internet functionality - Again, I could of got this on a blackberry or something but those ball things suck.
The camera - Oh no! only a 2megapixel? Its a flippin phone for god sake.. its good enough for the odd shot on the street so its good enough.
The app store - So many apps out there! Good ones to.

My only major niggle at this time is there isnt a seperate camera key on the side of the phone to take a picture, you have to tap a button on the screen.. no biggie.

This thing is a finger print magnet!

The iphone is the first thing that I've found has worked well with everything it's got. You can actually USE all of its functions.

I like that one app where it turns your desktop into a cup of coffee. You tilt it and pretend to drink it and then it refills itself.

Useless, but fun. it makes a cool noise when you tap it too.

I wish it had MMS. That's one feature they need to implement extremely soon so I can opt for an iPhone for my next phone. I've been holding off because I'm an avid text/picture sender.

However, owning an iPod Touch, I can see the iPhone being that much better. I'll have one soon enough I'm sure.

I've got a sweet free app where I can control the mouse on my computer from anywhere in the house. The full version comes with keys and everything :O

It isn't worth it, I think the only decent thing I have seen come out of that phone is the Sound grenade, only because you can walk around school seeing which teachers notice it and which don't. You can work it out so that people around 30+ can't hear it.

Precisely what the iphone is about. A bad phone with useless extra functions marketed as "fun".

No it's not

Wow, great comeback.

Does no one read my post? :(

The sound grenade is good, apart from the fact that I can't even hear it cause of my crappy hearing :( Although one time I had the earphones in my ears and let a friend play on my iPod whilst I was listening to my iPod... he then activated the sound grenade.

Don't get sound grenade if you have hearing loss. I have been experiencing headaches and tinnitus from previous injuries in excess since trying it out.

I hate sound grenade. It sucks, and is innacturate to the way grenades sound. They sound more like BOOMSPOOOMSHOOOMKROOOM than EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

It hurts my ears, much like after an explosion, the ringing part.

I ****ing hate sound grenade. My friends play it non stop to piss off people, and if you listen to it for too long it could do some damage. I think it should be ****ing banned from iTunes.

Or maybe you should find new friends.

The movie-times app is great. Not only does it use GPS to find my location and bring up every movie theatre within 10-50 miles of, but it also lists all the movies, their times, their rotten-tomato rating and lists reviews and trailers.

Or the balance program that allows me to keep up with my bank account so I don't have to keep going to www.wachovia.com.

facebook and aim are pretty obvious, the weather channel app gives me a lot more info than the iphone 'weather' app, and urbanspoon has helped me spice up my dinner selection. Wikipanion is a great app because it really streamlines wikipedia to mobile phones.

There are hundreds of thousands incredibly useful apps out there, and you're focusing on the stupid ones to make an argument? The iphone is not about 'iFart' and 'iSteam' and 'iDrink'; as youtube has proven 500 million times, if you give people the ability to upload their content to the public....they're going to upload stupid ****ing shit and you can't make it go away.

and you still haven't explain why the phone itself is the crappiest device ever. The size is acceptable, it looks sharp, the touchscreen is arguably the best on the market, and the interface is spot on. I'm starting to wonder if you're just one of those people who hate things that are popular, or because they're apple, or because everybody talks about how great it is.

Y'know, the equivalent to Sound Grenade happens to me when I play Half-Life 2 and blow something up too close. like, that ringing makes me go "AAAaAaaaaagh! 'The **** was that?!"

Also, yes, Movie Times is great.

I downloaded the sound granade app this evening... urghh even my cats looked at me like WTF?!?!?!?!?

I just learned through the power of the internet that a dolphin would want to buttsex you if it heard you messing with Sound Grenade.

Don't ever go to SeaWorld with that thing on. EVER.

I thought about getting an iPhone, but I've heard from others I know who have them how ridiculously fragile they are.

It wouldn't do for me to have a fragile phone.

I don't see how they're fragile. They've got an incredibly durable and hard glass screen and it's virtually scratch resistant. I've dropped my iPod Touch from about a 4.5 foot height onto a cement ground with only the case, which is form fitting, I purchased for it on, and it survived and works flawlessly still.

They're really not as fragile as people think. I use my iPod touch everyday for a longggg time, and I can't imagine how often I'd use the iPhone, but I've never thought, "Oh God.. It's going to break!"

Also, I only have a case that covers the metallic part. I've no screen protector and haven't had one for almost a year, and I've still yet to get a scratch on it. The only thing is before I purchased the case, the back got metal back got scratched up like usual. That's the only bad thing about it.

I threw my brick model verizon phone against a brick wall in rage. No effect.

I've been thinking of getting an iPhone. I really don't like Apple but this seems like one of the rare (only?) times that they've put out a product that isn't just more stylish and popular but actually legitimately better than the competition. Of course I could be wrong, I'm pretty ignorant on the subject of mobile phones.

Is there another smartphone out there that can compete in terms of interface and capability for a similar price point?
