Destructoid is reporting that the third Left 4 Dead 2 Special Infected is The Jockey.[br]
The Jockey has the ability to control the movement of the Survivors by jumping on their back and tearing them apart - fascinating.

The Jockey is a smaller zombie who jumps on the backs of Survivors and tears them apart from behind. Not only that, but he gets to control the movements of the Survivor while he's doing it, meaning that Versus Mode just got a whole lot crazier. Sounds like a helpful little guy who'll help guide the Survivors into ambushes and other desirable locations.

How awesome is that? We'll get to see The Jockey tearing Survivors apart at PAX.[br]

Update: We've just received a confirmation from Doug Lombardi.

I had a feeling they would eventully do an enemy that jumped ontop of your head, In my mind it was more of a monkey that played ur noggin like a drum, but im wierd.

Ah... seriously... I didn't like it :/

How? You've not seen it being used yet.

I think this should bring up some intersting situations. Leading people into witches and off cliffs will be fun :D

But guyzzzz

That would make the game balanced and make it harder for the survivors to winnn! I'm just a panzyyyyy! D:

I just don't like the idea :/

I mean... It's a zombie apocalypse... We already deal with many weird things like tanks and smokers... But a zombie that can control you? I think it starts to go too far... Next thing you know, there will be flying zombies and stuff, and things will go just too crazy, you know? Like Resident Evil 4... That's not resident evil, just uses the name and characters of a famous game to sell copies...

We'll already have to look out for 3 infected that can incapacitate players... Smoker, Hunter and Charger. Now one that will not only 'incapacitate' a player, but also control him, it's kinda nonsense IMO... Besides it's sounds overpowered. IMO that's going too far... In MY Opinion.

I would still love to see the screamer coming to life... I think it should work like this: It can be controlled by players in versus, it won't be like the witch as supposedly intended. When he got close to survivors, he would stun them while he was screaming. It would also stun any other infected in the proximity. But, it would alert the infected far away. It COULD cast a swarm. When the scream fades... Survivors would still see blurry and barely hear for like a couple of seconds, making them a bit more vulnerable. This wouldn't do much damage, but could incapacitate a low health player or something... The screamer melee attack would be a kick... He would be able to kick standing players, but it wouldn't be as effective as kicking incapacitated players. Anyway, specials only use 'normal' melee attacks as last resource(unless you're a tank of course).

I talked to a guy who has seen it in action. he said it was cool. the jockey has a laugh and hides in the dark. makes you work as a team more.

Clearly Gabe stole my idea when I sent him my concept where a smaller special infected leaps on the back of a survivor, bites down on them and causes hallucinations ;)

Clearly Gabe, Clearly.

Blue, that sounds like the Screamer Infected that was made into the Boomer:

Cool new Infected! I surprised you can control the person though. We will see how this one plays out and I can't wait to see it. I thought it would be rather that the person was trying to get it off while firing their gun, hurting teamates with TK fire.

Sounds awesome - I'm game for anything that makes me cackle with glee when I get a kill, and this sounds like it will certainly create some interesting situations.

Awww so no Digger or Widow then... :p
Sounds like a pretty sweet idea, look forward to seeing it in action.

The first thing I thought when I read about The Jockey was taking control over someone and having them jump off a roof. lol

Yeah and probably does a lot less damage. I think this will be really fun to play actually. Making survivors fall off ledges so they need to be helped up and knocking one down a drop which the survivors must take, meaning the other players must follow in a panic (while a smoker pulls the last). Team work fun to be had :D

Pretty scary stuff here. Valve is still full of fresh ideas, I like it.

That's so cool. I like it. Can't wait to see what it looks like.

@MaximusPM

But RE4 was one of the best in the series as well as one of the top games of it's year.
Anyway I think the Jockey is a awesome idea

This sounds like it'll create many tactical situations in the game and add a whole new layer to the gameplay.

Anything that adds a new level of unpredictability is great. Having only one special infected that really displaces a survivor doesn't really do much to break up a group that's playing well. I think it'll be great to have a new guy messing up even the good groups. I just want to see what sort of movement it has. Does it leap like the hunter or does it have to be closer? Fast-Slow? Strong-weak? Can't wait to see it.

It's nice to hear that Valve are shaking up the elements of gameplay not only in skins and maps, but in tactical additions. Can't help but wonder if this might turn out a little unfair to the survivors in Versus mode, although I suppose it'll be used in a similar way to how the smoker's tongue is used to pull people off of rooftops currently.

Looking forward to it anyway. And hiding in the dark with a sinister laugh? Damn that's creepy.

Lets hope they don't make the laugh too loud, the burping boomer sound makes you a fairly easy target. If the laugh is particularly terrifying I think I'd just sit in the shadows trying to spook the survivors into incapacitation.
