The last resort

This is known officially as being 'in OP' - Observation Placement - and more casually as 'lying on your face'. Any level student can be sent to OP, and it automatically demotes them to level 1 and zero points. Every 24 hours, students in OP are reviewed by staff, and only sincere and unconditional contrition will earn their release. If they are unrepentant? 'Well, they get another 24 hours.'

Oh, WAIT! Hehe, you put a semi-colon at the end of your link. :) Now it works.

i've heard of this before, crazy bastards, they are trying to find a cure for being teenaged, sadists

It's hard to imagine myself in a place like that. I would most likely try to build a raft, steal some food and hope I'd find a shipping lane. If I couldn't do that, I'd kill the guy who was in charge. If got caught before I could, I would kill myself. I would never comply. People who come out of that place have no spirit, no identity or individuality and compromised intellectual capacity. They are drones, senseless and brainwashed.

awesome, i wanna go there!.....with a couple mp5's, some desert eagles, and lots of ammo.

That is sick....disgusting. If my parents did that I'd hate them forever. If I knew anyone who sent their kids there, I would question their sanity and hate their guts. The kind of psychological damage something like that could cause. I wonder what the maximum age limit is for them to keep a person, and how long it will be before they get sued or one of their ex-patients breaks and destroys that place. A lot of their employees aren’t highly trained, and I question the psychological education of whoever created that place.

I'd rather do 15 boot camps. Shit, boot camp would even be highly enjoyable after reading that. You get plenty of exercise and learn useful stuff. Even an insane asylum might offer more opportunities.

If sent there, I can say without any doubt that I would become totally psychotic.

It should be stopped.

Jay Kay should be left all alone on a desert island somewhere.

I'm with you if you really are thinking about it. Hell, I'm with anyone thinking of going, that place needs to get blown up. In all seriousness, we could probobly do it easily. With all our training *CS* we'd just need to spend some time at a shooting range and we could easily take this place down.

Jay Kay, what a piece of crap that guy is. I say we put him in "Observation Placement". There are few people I wouldn't hesitate to hospitalize; he is one of them. Seriously, when I heard coolio saying:

"n an environment so intolerable that he will do anything to get out - where 'anything' means surrendering his mind to authority."

I thought he was talking about a mod. I can't believe this is really taking place.

Many cases of 'troubled' teens is due to parental neglect, the parents rather look for something to keep the teen occupied than spend time with the teen, resulting in lack of communication and instills a feeling of being unwanted in the teens phyche. However in some extreme cases it may be required to demonstrate to the teen that total loss is possible, and that there are no concrete rights - it is possible to be dragged off and subjected to a totalarian control system, where you must comply with authority.

Where does one draw the line between being a teen and being self destructive?

I too have been subjected to something similar - the military, at one stage there was a law that each male after secondary school must report for military service (except those who wish to study further - then they will be expected to serve after tertiary education), and I done 1 year military service. I, and many others, descibe the term of service as "The best time of my life that I NEVER want to do again". I have often remarked that many teens could do with some military time but the forced service has been removed.

I've read about this before. The article in Time was even more editorialized (with good reason) and talked a lot more about the physical punishment. According to that article, OP wasn't just lying on your face, it was lying on your face while they bent your arms up behind your back. Apparantly they had some kid in there for weeks, screaming at the top of his lungs.

It's brainwashing, pure and simple. They destroy your identity; of course you'll be soft-spoken and polite.

It isn't, but does it matter? this shits freaky and needs to be addressed... I'd laugh my head off if some of these kids faked it and then sued their parents for emotional distress...

Somebody should make a movie/documentary of this then this all would be stopped quite soon, this is really middle-aged sickness...

I would like to point out to ASnogarD that this is nothing like forced military service. This is not merely a thing which requires significant effort and dicipline.

BTW, this is SSSSOOOO off topic of Half-Life 2. Could some MOD please move this to Off-Topic? Thankyou.

Time check.

Maybe you should sniff around but there was a revolt at this centre after this news story was published. All the kids are now released and the place is being investigated.

Wow. Now im depressed to the point that i must do something about this (not with guns, but the legality of this place intrigues me). Honestly when you think about it, this place is only still standing because it resides in Jamaica. But it breaks the constitution (at least the canadian one) which means the U.S Gov should do something about it. It would look very good on a politicians sheet, "I took out that bastardized institute that ****ed teenagers up"

On level 1, students are forbidden to speak, stand up, sit down or move without permission. When they have earnt enough points to reach level 2, they may speak without permission; on level 3, they are granted a (staff-monitored) phone call home. Levels 4, 5 and 6 enjoy significantly higher status. In addition to enjoying privileges, such as (strictly limited and approved) clothing, jewellery, music and snacks, they are employed for three days a week as a member of staff, and must discipline other students by issuing 'consequences'

They even force kids to punish other kids if they want to get out.

yeah the worst part about trying to do something to take the place down from within is that you'd have to deal with brainwashed teens who will stop at nohing to stab you in the back to get out faster than you

Really? WooHoo! Go PrisonerKids!

The horror....The horror.....It's lucky this place was closed down, else I really would be prepared to take part in some sort of rescue mission, ridiculous though it seems. I find the idea of a school ruled with an iron fist and a pupil resistance a fascinating one...hell, one day I'll probably write a book about it. I've seen this before, and it's a modern myth. Of course, nobody said the myths werent real.....

I would kill to get out of there, seriously i'd use a rusty brick or something, This is sick is deserves to be blown up as well as brought down. I would of though it impossible for this place to be constucted in the first place. It says in one of articles children were kidnapped and taken there, shurly this infringes on some kind or legal issue?

Any way, who would hate there child so much to dend them there in the first place? if you cant cope with children dont be a parent:flame:

At least its been taken down.... :cheese:

reading these articles made me realize how taboo the idea of abusing children, even teenagers, is in our society. I mean, we see people getting tortured in movies, but they're always strong men who show how tough they are by tolerating their pain.

Imagine how shocking it would be to see a child or a woman tortured in a movie, screaming for mercy at the top of their lungs...the idea makes me shudder. If the image in a movie makes me feel uncomfortable, you can imagine how I feel reading about a place like this.

And they claim we're desensitized.

really off topic heh,
not trusting anyone, everyone is out to get you
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT CAN DO TO A KID? talk about friggin mental damage. you'll wake up at night thinking people are out to get you. you'll shudder in fear if you do something bad, you'll be permanently scarred, and thats just one thing.

if i were ever a student i mean ahem prisoner there, i'd be like an angel and get out as fast as i can, as soon as i walk out the door though...
i'd shout **** YOU ***** **** YOURSELF yatta yatta for as long as i was in screaming distance

That would have been so cool, go to Jamaica all kitted out in black seal gear and airsoft mp5s, use dinghys and go infiltrate at night. Jay Kay would have shat a brick, then we could have let everyone go but kept all the workers in a room, blindfolded them and put a rag covered in petrol under their noses and poured water all over them. Then set a some paper on fire in a corner (but away from anything else that could catch fire). They would have been so scared muhahahha

Anyways, evil shit going on there. Jay Kay said about the handbook and how it said not to believe what your kid was saying about the place and i thought no-one would believe a guide over your own child. But that insurance nonce did ;(

This just when I was starting to like Americans again :)

I was honestly shuddering when I read this... I actually know someone with Bi-Polar, she's a real trouble maker and she caught her parents talking about sending her away somewhere. Thing is she's been abused by her mother (who is now in jail) and her father (who is now remarried) who continues to beat on her to this day, she's been raped alot, three times causing pregnancy. Talking to her you can hear she is truly unhappy and wants more than anything to get better, and to think her parents would have the right, if they lived in America, to send her somewhere like this? I feel like throwing up...
