The last WW1 veteran just passed away. He was born in 1901 and died in 2011. Think of all the shit he's witnessed - two world wars, penicillin, the fall of the British Empire, television, planes, the emergence of the Soviet Union and the USA, the space race, computers, the internet! I wonder if I'll also live to be 110 years old -- and if so, how different the world will be by the year 2100.

But he did believe in medals!

Probably the single biggest, most pointless waste of human life in history. **** war.

"The war to end all wars"

I'm not sure if this post is critical or humorous or just both. If it is in fact the former I'll be quite annoyed, but I'm too lazy to post an argument against it especially if it was the latter all along.

He fought at the age of 13? Or did I miss something here?

I laughed and now I feel guilty.:(

Anyway, one thing I thought when I heard of this was that hopefully we will within my life reach a point where we will have no people around that have experienced a world war.

That comes out a bit weird but I am not sure how to word it.

He got to witness the dawning of the automobile and the beginning of the ensuing oil crisis... good times. I got to see the dawning of the Ipod so I'm sure I'll see the Mp3 crisis of 2100. Or the point when Windows becomes self aware and takes over Microsoft.

The only good things to ever come out of WWI was tanks. Not even decent ones, mind you. And gas masks.

If there is another world war now there won't be anyone left to say they have experienced it.

Anyway, his death is a pretty big moment in history, that was possibly the most pointless war of them all.

I always prefer people to see the humor in my posts rather than be annoyed.

God you're annoying.

I've often wondered what it would be like to have lived that long. This guy was born in an age where horses were still the primary mode of transportation besides walking. From horse drawn carriages to the verge of consumer level space travel. God damn, he's seen so much. It makes me excited for my own future.

LULZ he fought in a war but he doesn't believe in war LULZ

Also, it's his love of family that's kept him alive!

Give me a ****ing break. Dude doesn't even know what the **** is going on anymore.

That's bullshit in my most humble opinion.

There is absolutely no need for a future world war to absolutely mean the wide-spread use of WMDs.

Even during the cold war with the proxy conflicts the superpowers showed that they could exercise restraint in terms of nuclear weapons.
