This thread just made me want a HL2 themed mod even more.
Just imagine:
32 rebels vs 32 combines (or more?)
features:
-huge battlegrounds
-combine future style vehicles as well as rebel old vehicles
-dropships
-enormous cannon-equipped structures and tactical buildings with guns, missiles, lasers, etc..
-AI striders for combine/friendly AI aliens for resistance
-special hud for combine with terminatorlike displays
-neverending fighting
-every now and then, a common enormous alien enemy would step in, and both sides would have to fight it or all die/lose
-you'd get to use the crowbar, manipulator gun, laserguided rpg, etc...
-sometimes you would see gordon or the gman, but you could never get to them
