The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe.

I saw this movie over the weekend. To be honest, I didnt really like it. As one who never read the book, some things seemed sooooo freaken corny and "convienient". I supposed its not a fault of the movie, but the story itself. I mean seriously...
They are running away from the witch, with her right on their tail and then out of nowhere .... SANTA CLAUSE arrives and gives them all the weapons they need, and a magic "heal everbody no matter if they are as good as dead or not" potion which only needs one drop to work.
WTF??? seriously, santa clause. Goblins, witches, talking lion general, angry beavers, and Santa Clause. Forgive me for being skeptical.

And then Aslan was so predictable. They tried to make it seem like he wouldnt come back alive, even though you knew he would. They kept showing his face, making you expect to see his eye open or move... but it never happend. So your like "ok, i guess he really is dead, it wasnt as corny as I thought it would be"... then wham, the girls turn around and he is alive again. wtf. seriously

And what really got me pissed, was that at the end, after the whole war was over, the little girl goes around reviving everyone on the good side. COME ON, how BS is that, even for a fantasy novel.

Idunno, the whole thing reeked of BS and cornyness in my opinion. And the witches acting sucked so bad... she was trying WAY too hard.

However, I am a computer animator, and the special effects and cg scenes were really phenomonal. Atzlan looked incredibly real, and really, every creature and environment looked spectacular. I enjoyed that much of the movie.

Aslan's ressurrection is always something I've found cheap, convenient, and emotionally undermining.

As for the Santa Claus bit, it was not the witch chasing them, but Santa Claus. They couldn't see the sleigh itself, only the reindeer. As far as they knew, the witch had reindeer. Santa Claus hadn't been around for 100+ years. So yeah, they panic, run, then figure out it's Santa.

Yeah, I understood that they thought it was the witch, and turn up to be santa, but comeon, what does santa have to do with anything in this movie? Just because they havent had christmas in 100 years??? So why does Santa come when the winter is ending?? Its December when santa comes, and thats smack dab in the middle of winter, and not when everything is getting warm, and the snow is all melted. But still... he has nothing to do with the story whatsoever except for just being a convinient excuse for the kids getting uber weapons.

It was a sign of hope returning, as was spring. Symbolism FTW

Did anyone catch the ending? The old guy is aslan...I never read the books so I didn't know before but I thought that was awsome. No one else I went with noticed it either. It was pretty subtle but definately added a lot to the movie for me. Now I gotta see it again and try to notice similarities between them.

How so?

When all of the kids leave the closet at the end and the old guy asks them what they were up to they respond by saying "You wouldn't believe it if we told you". Then he responds by saying "Oh I dunno...".

Next Mr. Thomas tells the little girl that some days Aslan is there and others he isn't. That is because he is switching between narnia and earth.

Note that aslan walked away before the kids left...and he showed up next to the closet before they came out. It is just small pieces in the movie that lead me to that conclusion and it all fits together.
I want to see the movie again to see if I can find anything more to support this.

But Doesnt time stop when you go through the wardrobe? It would be kinda hard for him to switch in and out when he is frozen in time in the real world.

It might...but he did go into the wardrobe and he could appear. It might just be that when your in narnia the real world moves very slow. In that case it is possible that in the start it wasn't the nanny opening the door but the professor to go into the wardrobe and he left before they got out so he could be there when they get out.

The old guy isn't Aslan. Read The Magician's Nephew (prequel to LWW)

Besides, they both have different voices (aslan is voiced Liam Neeson) and i don't think Narnia can change your physical shape. Also, see above. I think he's just an old man who's heard myths and rumors about the Wardrobe and when the 2 kids bring it up he just gets excited, or maybe he found Narnia as a boy and forgot about it.

Shutup...stop ruining my fun! hah...it might not be in the books but they sure did make it seem that way in the movie. I find the movie a whole lot more interesting when theres many links like this in it...so for now I will continue to think the old guy is aslan!

C'mon, do you guys not read? I suggest you all go read at least the first two books in the narnia series.

Very good but just seemed really quick to me.
Exact same thing that I thought.
All of a sudden they're at this epic battle to decide the fate of the world, and when you think back to what you've just watched before that, they haven't really done much up to that point.

I guess it was never meant to be as epic as LOTR or anything, but still.
I've never read the books by the way.

Also, can someone list the Narnia books in the order they were WRITTEN?

Yeah, i had seen the new version of the books at Target when i was looking at DVDs but i had no idea what the next book in the series was, they weren't numbered.

For kiddies...or appropriate for kids but good for people of any age?

Sounds like someone is trying to show they are far too old and cool to see a movie with a good story...because kids can see it too!

thts film was pretty cool for the type tht it is, tho the kid actors were a bit crappy! Bt yeh mmm the lion was lush!
Classic movie tht you gotta see rele i think :P

It was a decent movie but just irritated me

The four kids were absolutely detestable characters. And i overthought too many parts and it just ended up pissing me off. Plus any movie where little kids are the heros just bug me.

Yeah I agree with those points. I still liked the movie and tried to concentrate on the plot rather than the fact that the main heroes were a bunch of annoying kids.

Yea, if you can manage to get past the kids then it's a pretty good movie

(It was just so hard though XD)

Lol yeah, its that whole "Bull***, kids wouldnt survive all that" kinda reality that takes me out of movies with kid heroes. Same with harry potter (although I find the movies for that series much better).
