The little glowing thingummies...

That were energy being sucked into a teleport or at least a small gap in the fabric of reality?

Hmm. It seemed like that to me, too. But at the end

SPOILER

Glad I've got that out of my system. Anyway, at the end, loads of them were flying into that teleport and then the evil worm came through. Still, the 'dastardly Rac-X meddling' theory might be more accurate.

And what was up with the way that the Race X worm resembled one of the Xenian Tentacles?

What are the "Xenian Tentacles"? I can't quite remember...

The glowing balls always appear around really large-scale teleport fields when they are being created. Nilanth, the resonance cascade, part of decay, etc.

I think that they are a result of the creation process, or part of how the charge up. The Op4 boss is probably one of the largest things to warp in (it only made it in halfway), and took a long time to do it too. I think the balls are energy particles collecting together to form the warp, sucked there through the ventilation.

The tentacles were the big green things in the rocket testing chamber...

Maybe the little glowing things were some sort of ball lightning...

Seems obvious to me - lazy developers. The Race-X had a parallell for every single Xen alien.

Yeah, but they were better in many cases. Those alien troopers were pretty awesome, as were the voltigores. All of the new guys were cool, in fact.

oh right, thanks :p

I think that the Race-X were more badass because they were the species more geared to war. If some of these theories are correct, and the Xenians were just acting in self-defense, then that may explain why only one kind (the Grunt) appeared to be specifically designed to fight.

I just had an idea. You see the little sparkles fly into that

SPOILER

Do tell me if I don't have to do this (I'm making a fool of myself, aren't I?) purple portal at the end, and then the big gene worm comes out, right? So what if the little sparkly things all combine to make the big worm? WHat if they are all little pieces of it?

They COULD be just energy thingies caused by teleportations fields, BUT,
They do help you,,, at least it seems,
i had never really noticed but, this is pretty strange (well, hl IS strange anyways... thats why its cool),
Couldn't they be some kind of life form, like the xen butterflies, like some kind of "fey" (geez...) to help you? i mean, if they want to help you they must be intelligent...

isnt it infinatly more likely that instead of a deap meaningful story myth these glowing balls were just there so the player would find the end of the level?

they just made them "fly" so you wouldnt wonder why any1 whent to the bother of marking the way to an enemy with glowing lights.

I don't like that theory, we're talking about Half life, not Doom, this game got a STORY!

Wathever, getting deep into HL's world makes me forget mine, and it's cool, so...
are those little ball Xenian "feys" ?

What are the "Xen butterflies"? I've heard of them, but I don't remember them from the game...

The ones you see in the firt level of xen, the room with the mushrooms, they are in a biological cage of some sort and you have to liberate them so they become energy lasers things,,, Xen is a kinda strange place, so cool...
