I thought the movie ending was about as good as they could come up with for the screen, and provoked a lot of emotion. I love bitter endings. Darabont did a good job.

Personally though, if I were the main character, I would've driven up into to the mountains, where in theory the ground would rise above the mist. I've always wanted a beard like grizzly adams.
