Well... I didn't want to post in the "Renegade X: Dead 6" help wanted thread because I didn't want to derail it, but well... it got me thinking about the modding community in general nowadays. I remember before like in the Duke Nukem 3D or Quake 1 days, people would get together enthusiastically and try to slap some stuff together in their spare time, knowing that people would want to try out their mod and have fun with it. Nowadays, most people hold such a high standard of themselves when looking at the "help wanted" posts, such that they would never want to associate themselves with a "fly-by night amateur project".
Where the hell are the people who are passionate about making mods because they like making something that is fun, rather than trying to prove their "street cred"? Are the only mods that are even looked at as being "successful" are the ones which are filled with "amateur mod professionals" (however contradictory that sounds)? I know that others would never want to join a mod lead by an "idea" person, but it seems to also apply to those who haven't made any game content for 4 years straight as well.
