Hehe, norska låter kul när man hör det..*älska norska*

Yeah esperanto was invented to become the european language, but it never caught on.

English is grammatically easy compared to many other languages, because it sentences are structured in a linear fashion, 'The cat sat on the mat', as opposed to 'on the mat sat the Cat'. However english is a language which revolves around nuance. We seem to have have 2 dozen words for everything, but each word is slightly different from the rest, based upon use and circumstance. Also the language mutates and adapts rapidly to cultural shifts, slang words proliferate, and are quickly absorbed into the collective english psyche.

Personally I think that Mandarin (the language used in Crouching tiger, hidden Dragon) is one of the most beautiful languages, because of it's inherent softness.

I also like Swedish, because of it's melodious nature.

hmmm
/me thinks of what I can add to this thread

oh, oh, I got something! In Latin, aqua, means water.......Oh wait...that sucks :(

I'm Danish.

I speak Fluent Danish and near Fluent English.
I understand Swedish, Norwegian. a little German and very little Spanish.

Swedish and Norwegian I understand near perfect when written, but I sadly prefer SPEAKING English with our neighbours, which I'm actually a little ashamed of since our language is very similar(Think American vs. English) and we oughta understand each other...I actually think Denmark, Norway and Sweden should focus more on their neighbouring scandinavian languages in school, than they do now.

with that said...I think the best sounding languages is American and Swedish...or better yet American with Swedish accent.

the most horrible sounding languages gotta be Dutch and Finnish.

Im with you there. Reading isnt a problem but understand it when spoken is harder. Alot of people i talk to tries to talk more swedish-ish so its easier for Sweds and Norwegians to understand. Same goes for Norwegians if they want to talk to Dannish people.

the mandarin one talks about a beautifu woman who died at 44.
In my opinion London english is beautiful, but perhaps not the most beautiful one.
I can speak Cantonese, Englsih and a little Mandarin.

Firstly, we should make everyone state their native (or at least one of their native languages)

I'm Swedish. I really can't say I consider swedish to be among the most beautiful languages. I'm a sucker for latin l:s myself. Spanish is probably my favorite. I also like Brasilian Portuguese.

Also, I think English (when not maltreated) is a truly beautiful language. I am also completely fascinated by "Internet English", which has truly become The Ultimate Language. I'm NOT talking about AIM/IRC English here; what I'm talking about is the lovely cross breed of American English and British English with plenty of words borrowed from other Net Nations. I enjoy it seeing it develop every day. It's a work of art in progress. Many moons ago, I used to be a fan of Esperanto, I'm now a fan of Internet English. I may be the the only one who has a clear concept of Internet English as I see it, but I'm sure I won't be the last. Typing in Internet English DOES NOT, to me, mean you can disregard grammar. Instead, it means purifying the essence of the the English language, finding the common grounds, so to speak, of BE and AE and invigorating it with words from other languages. It's happening and it's a beautiful thing.

Um, so... thank you for reading through my ramblings :) The most beautiful Nordic language is, IMO, Norwegian. It just makes me so happy everytime I hear it :)

OMG, you have suffered though the drunk ramblings of MrMethane!. Write me a PM, and I will award you a certificate of excellence!

EDIT: purifing -> purifying. Um, maybe thats correct. I never said I was infallibale at Internet English :)

EDIT2: Yes, I realize that I've used Americanized spelling on at least one occasion. However, I feel that the ou/o spelling is a really irrelevant to IE (both are acceptable)

I like French, hey I am romantic in heart, what are you going do about it :)

As for English, I don’ think it’s very hard. But I know a lot of my Korean friends have problems with English, because the came from totally different world.

Yes, this is true. OTOH I know native Chinese speakers who can type perfect English

EDIT: For you native English speakers. Does my use of "type" seem odd to you? I'm aware that "typing" typically refers to the physical act of punching a key on a typewriter, but I'm using "type" to denote a mechanical (albeit highly functional) use of the English language as opposed to writing, which would mean you think in English as you write.

Hmmm...most beautiful language?

this is kinda nerdy, but Elvish from LotR is a beautiful language. Supposedly Tolkien was fluent in Elvish....since he created it.
I also happen to think that Japanese is a beautiful language.

The ugliest language......Klingon...

I am a native spanish speaker and i can also speak english fluently. I can speak some portuguese and french, as well as understand both languages. It's easier to read than to actually understand when the language is spoken, simply because you have to train your ear to listen for particular sounds in a language. For example in english, a lot of emphasys is placed on consonants while in spanish the emphasys is placed more on the vocals.

I think the most romantic language is probably french, with spanish being a close second. It all really depends on the tone of your voice and the speed at which you speak. Given the right balance you can make any language sound beautiful.

Ugliest language? Russian seems pretty harsh but i would still learn it.

You said it!
I don't undestand much italian but it is the most relaxing and most beautiful language to listen to.

I'm Norwegian by the way, and speak/write English, Norwegian and some German. I understand Swedish, Danish, some Italian.. That's about it. I really like languages. Want to fully learn Italian and french. Those are nice.

Russian, Japanese, Spanish or German.
Most of you probably dislike German but when first get to know the language and knows its gramma etc. then it's actually a ****ing cool language. I like to talk in German even though it's hard to keep on remembering all the gramma rules.
I speak/understand: Danish, Spanish, German, English, Swedish and Norwegian

English and Russian languages are very nice to me.

I can speak Swedish, English and a little Spanish (don’t except much though).

"Me llamo Loke, vivo en Suecia."

What do you speak, can you translate that to English? :)
Hey I did learn stuff in Spanish class.

I think Middle English sounds neat... probably not the most beautiful language, but it's still really neat. The only Middle English I've read was the prologue of Canterbury Tales (our English teacher made us read it in Middle English and she gave us a coloring book with it in Middle English--extra credit to color it, heh.... and then we had to recite the first 18 lines in Middle English "whan that aprille with his shoures sote/the droghte of marche hath perced to the rote/and bathed every veyne in swich liquor...."), so I've only really heard it in poetic form. Some words sound really nice, like "melodye" and "pilgrimages" pronounced "meloday-uh" and "pilgrimaaages" with the stress on the "a", and the "a" sound like the "o" in "cod"--sounds neat. I think my teacher said Middle English came from Old English being mixed with French so the people originally in England could communicate with the upper class people when William the Conqueror came... or something like that.

I migth have to say Latin. I love that language.
Im taking up some Latin classes next year. Its just so freaking cool.

weeeeeeeeee

sorry folks.. but the most beautiful language in the world is SPanish. but be aware of the area where is spoken because the diferences of how it sounds are HUgE! the spanish in some countries kill the beauty of it... the spanish from SPain ,have the original one.. ;) btw.. for the record ,im not from spain..:) the few examples of spanish you listen in some holywood movies it just the lowest street language "hasta la vista baby", "yo quiero taco bell" LOL!!! and its far from the beauty of it.. the most beautifull songs and poems today are in spanish too . :) Portuguese sounds very nice.. but dont understand it.. funny that the language comes from the Latin too like spanish but sounds so diferent to spanish.Italian comes from the latin too, also is very nice ,if you speak spanish you will understand most of it.;) and also like the strong feeling of German. French is said to be the language of love ,but too soft for my tastes.in short languages that comes from the LATIN are the most beatifull.:)

here is an interesting link of the most spokens languages of the world..

I'm Danish, and I'll have to agree with my fellow countryman that It's MUCH easier to speak english with our neighbours (Norway & Sweden) than with our respective languages. I, for one, can't understand a word Swedish while Norwegian is a lot easier. (It still doesn't get on the same level as English.)

As for the most beautiful language, I'd have to name more than one;
- The Scottish accent is just awesome, can't describe it further. It just sounds plain cool!
- The Slavic languages, especially Serbian. They just have that neat badass pronouncation. Apart from that, Russian is a nice lang too...

As for the worst one, I'd have to name my own. Danish is simply a boring language. Norwegian or Swedish is the better part of the Nordic language family. They have a much better rythm, and basically just sound neater...
