As we all know Valve today released an update to our beloved Team Fortress 2. unfortually a console command was forgotten and was realeased with this update. The console command(s) could get you ALL achievements or just the milestones that allowed you acces to the new medic weapons. This has resulted in that alot of unskilled as well as lazy skilled player, now already is running around with the Ubersaw in their hands. on April 30. 11:54 AM this was fixed, but still players run around with all of these new weapons.

So fellow players. Is this valves greatest fail ever? Is this one of the things that will go into history of gaming. Was this planned by some dumcock programmer? well I'll let you judge and discuss

*Hiding in the bushes*

aww, man. that sucks.

I wonder who tried it first and was like. WAOH!!! LOOK AT ME I HAS UBERSAW LOL

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed tbh. OP is exaggerating like crazy but it really was a retarded screw up on Valve's part. Leaving the command in means that there's now no prestige in having all the unlocks, since you'll look like a cheater. Taking the command out but leaving the unlocks in for people who used it means that the snidiest people now have a slight advantage that they didn't earn. Pretty damn bad.

Edit: New update sounds like it's resetting achievements for people who used it. Best way to clear up the mess.

Yeah, it is a pretty bad screw-up. Why did they remove the command?

I think the idea of them as unlocks from such ridiculously hard achievements was a bit retarded anyway, but whatever.

they lowered the difficulty of them.

10million heal points is rediculous

Valve seem to be very proficient at releasing broken builds to the public, but on the other hand they are very efficient at fixing them again. :rolling:

I actually just got 30/39 of the achievements in a little over four hours. You just have to work for them. I take back everything I said about it requiring autistic/OCD levels of work (Yes, CyberPitz I have integrity enough to admit that.)...you just need to work under the right conditions on the right servers with the right people. on the right map (achivement box b3 for the win!)

I also ran into some people, both from the same clan [SKC]Chewbacca and [SKC]Negative Polarity who actually had all the achievements after the reset which they earned while I played with them. I should write a guide on how to farm them. It's not as tedious as you think. The team work and intuition that each player contributes makes it a pleasure to farm them in.

For example to getting Intern, Specialist and Chief of Staff is much easier than we think. In fact they're the ones that require no work! All you need is two or more medics in a server with the achievement box map that doesn't kick people for going AFK. Everyone sets their mediguns on autoheal and picks someone to heal in a way that everyone has someone to fall back on. Then have everyone stand on the pools that damage you. Just leave the game on while you eat something, pay a visit to your mom/dad/significant other, go to the park, sleep, and/or not waste your life. Come back after however many hours, die and you and every medic who participate will now have the three achievements!)

Sounds interesting. I would love to get these achievements. unfortually i need someone to work with to get them, and not just some random people on public servers.

Why didn't you say earlier. I would have wanted to try that..hehe

jk

Farming: taking the achieve out of 'achievement'

It's one thing going onto a server with a friend and trying to get an achievement together through co-operative play, it's another thing not playing the game at all to get an achievement. But the only person you're kidding is yourself. I'm gonna work for my achievements so when I get the Ubersaw it'll be something I can feel proud of.

Farming is actually pretty fun in this game. Unlike games like Diablo or WoW where you would travel to distant places to click moving items endlessly and mindlessly just to see a meter slowly go up or in the hopes that the sought out item might just appear, the farming here takes creativity, thought and REAL teamwork. Teamwork that includes not just ganging up on the enemy. Teamwork that takes members from the OPPOSITE TEAM.

I truly believe that Valve intended us to farm. Why else would they put an achievement like Big Pharma which not only has farming in it's name but even on a packed achievement box server takes forever as waves of enemies fall right at their spawn point. They knew too few people were playing medics and they gave farming...almost homesteading incentives to ensure everyone will take opportunity by the horns.

Makes me wonder though... how many farming medics will actually play medic when they've got their unlockables...

I for one will. The medic was one of the most nerfed classes combat wise from the TFC transition. In the TF and TFC days all I played were medic and scout. Post TF2, I rarely touched the class until I discovered his joys now.

For example I never knew that according to Valve stats the Medic's bonesaw had a higher crit rate compared to the other melee weapons. It makes sense considering all they assists they would receive.

Psh, Human dispenser

I have 19/39 achievements atm, not really that hard if others are willing to help. Some of them are just down to plain luck.

Don't try to go after them, just play medic and you'll find yourself getting them.

Bitch, whine moan, etcetera. A lot of people lost their hax acquired achievements, frankly it's bullshit the weapons are tied to the achievements anyway as they hardly encourage any bloody teamwork. That said after the wipe I'm back up to 31/39.

I completely agree.

I believe that's incorrect. If you look at the latest stats, I believe you'll find the engineer's wrench and the demo's bottle currently have a higher crit percentage than the bonesaw. (And a week ago, the scout's bat was above the bonesaw.)

Valve does this frequently. Remember the % sign that crashed servers? Valve fixes it in Counter-Strike then when they released CS: Source guess what came back? The old % server crash. LOL

But they fixed it.

Except that time people weren't flaming valve saying "Valve you put the % server crash in your code it was MEANT to be there. Therefore you need to put it back in so I can continue to crash servers." Like they are with the developer unlock commands. :smoking:

Where can one find the achievement box map? My friend is interested in getting it for his server.

Why don't you guys just log on to TF2 and clip on the map tab under "Find Servers". That should alphabetize all the maps and since achivementbox_b3, starts with an A it should always be on top. (Google just seems to be giving me stats and stuff.)

I meant a download of the map for a friend's dedicated server.

What criteria did they use to determine who got wiped and who didn't? Did everyone get the wipe who used the command, or just some?

I don't think everyone got wiped only a few,Someone said he used the command and still had all the new achievements and guns after they fixed the command. So perhaps a few got lucky and kept all the new stuff.

haha, I guess the "we can't reset achievments" stuff was a great big lie.

GG Valve, you c**ts.

They disabled manual stat resets (I mean, you resetting your own stats) after a while, for some reason.

So now that it's been disabled, what exactly was the command?

Edit: NM, discovered it. Haha, oh wow Valve.

Farming: taking the achieve out of 'achievement'

I'm sorry to say I'm going to have to totally go back on this comment. I tried for a bit to get some of the achievements and only managed 6 through legitimate play. With only enough time to play roughly one weekend every 2 weeks, most of these 'random' achievements are way out of my reach. Some of the achievements, like holding onto an uber and trying to get 5 kills, are totally counter-productive to TF2's gameplay and will only really get unlocked legitimately by griefing against absolute beginners who you are WAY better than, which is totally anti-social.

In short, I am guilty of farming. :( (because I wanted to have something to take away with me from a weekend spent on TF2)

I still stand by what I said about taking the 'achieve' out of 'achievement'. I don't feel like I've earnt the Blutsaugher, but I do feel like I'm entitled to all the content in the game I paid for, by hook or by crook.

^ Yeah pretty much what everyone is going through at the moment from what I've seen.

It's why the console command was so good, I could unlock the weapons and get the rest of the achievments with a "come what may" attitude. In fact it would go up there amongst my favouire TF2 moments - one of two medics on my team on a full 24 player server, on a new map testing out some cool new weapons, it was exciting.

Farming wasn't my preferred option (when I finished I didn't really feel particularly excited and it screwed some of my stats) but it was a choice between having the new weapons or waiting for a long time (maybe never) to get them. And it's not like I'm a bad medic either.

I don't know if Valve underestimated how much people would want to try the new things or overestimated how much time they were willing to spend to get them but I hope Valve rethinks things for the rest of the classes.

You'd think Valve could do something about the people who evidently don't have the achievements because they don't have the stats.

^ what do you mean? Everyone who used the command has already had their medic achievements reset.

Yeah, I noticed after posting that. But I hear only half of the people have. Although the other half could just be lying.

As for the "fail", I simply believe Valve made far too many oversights with the achievements. As it was Valve's first time, I'm inclined to let them off. There are still 8 more times they can make it up to us.
