I was just wondering if anyone'd seen The Motorcycle Diaries?
It's based on Ernesto "Che" Guevara's diaries of when he travelled as a student around Latin America and how his political views developed.

I'd recommend anyone to go and see it. It's wonderfully shot, brilliantly acted, often very funny and engagingly human. It could have been Road Trip with a soon-to-be revolutionary hero, but it's respectful and very very good. It doesn't romanticise him too much, either. Apparently there's a Hollywood biography in production and sadly that will probably turn out to be utterly abysmal.

Anyone seen it? Got any thoughts?

haven't heard of this one until now. definitely gonna try and catch it asap.

I don't know what to say to that...

Aha, they made a movie of that book? Cool!
Damn, I really must see it.

So you're saying "Can't argue with that. Must. See. Now."

WHAT?????? there's a movie? I read the book a long time ago, didnt know there was a movie. Is it a documentary? Who's in it? hope it's not an american production, I'm sure they'd butcher it by making Che spew quick one liners like: "Hasta La vista Bolivia!" or something to that effect

It's not a documentary, it's a dramatisation of his diaries and no further than the events told in them. It's faithful and respectful.
There's no-one in it who's particularly famous, but they're all fantastic actors.
It's not an American production, it's in Spanish with sub-titles (which I quite liked actually).
Seeing as he isn't a guerrilla in Bolivia yet, he doesn't get the chance to spew those one-liners :)
It really is fantastically human, very well done and doesn't romanticise him too much at all.

it's excellent, I saw it today.

Very good portrayal of Che as his mentality changed. You really see how he is affected and transformed into a different person through the things he experiences during the film.

Read the quote again :)

I just went back and read what I'd quoted and I don't get it. Must've been really tired or something :O

i didn't get that at all...
Seems to me that the good Doctor sees Che, thinks Commie, runs squeeling because surely if it's got a red in it, it must be devoid of any merit whatsoever. :hmph:

Anyways, I'm glad you liked it :) I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. 7th February apparently. Oh baby.
