It starts tonight... anyone else unreasonably excited about that or am I the only one in need of therapy? For the purists, yes I know they completely shuffled things around from the original and I don't care. The original was good for it's time, the new one looks like it's shaping up to be far better.

For one thing, Baltus doesn't have the personality of a cartoon supervillian.

Just starts tonight? I'm sure some people I know left various games half-way through to go watch this ages ago.

Well they had a Mini-Series first. It did well so they made a series. Ill probably watch it but from the reviews I've seen it may not be all that great.

That was the pilot/mini-series they did a year ago. The series starts tonight, picks up where that left off.

The series is almost done in the UK, and its bloody amazing.. Best show on TV for the past few years. The mini-series was great, but the first proper series is far superior, excellent storylines, excellent acting, simply amazing FX.

Baltar rocks :D

What!? You got it already? Lucky bastards...

What do you mean by 'done'? Done the first season (of many I hope)?

I'm definitely looking forward to a Baltar who's a believable human character with significantly more complexities in his personality than the original had.

Done as in coming up to the two parter season finale

There are more episodes getting made though, its been a big success over here.

And if you think Baltar is complex in the mini-series :)

I agree, BSG is fantastic \o/

The pilot movie was an excellent introduction (I was so engrossed that all 3 hours felt like 1 1/2 :)) - and the series is continuing it in fine style.

Baltar is a great character.

I was completely against the remake at first, being a huge fan of the original. I've ended up taking back everything. It really is brilliant. Though I do miss the original cylons.

Best Baltar scene, the "I'll never tell" bit and when he's spinning on his chair.. its just so.. yeah, hehe.

I can't wait for the two parter and then the next series, the way they've written the storylines they've ensured it can't run out of new idea's so quickly, something that plagued even Stargate. The writers have some real talent how they've basically turned a short space of time from the original into an entire season and kept true to that while at the same time making it more believable and throwing in plenty of depth to the characters.

Not to mention the battles are just perfect, and how the ships don't suddenly appear clean the next episode, the Galactica gradually getting more banged up. Really adds a lot.

Yeah, enjoying it so far. I've missed a few episodes unfortunately, but I've managed to pick it up again!

I was surprised just how enjoyable the first series has been. Almost always the first series of some show struggles to find its feet. With a few exceptions, Firefly, Dead like me, Six Feet Under.

Stargate struggled at first, All the Star Trek spinoffs struggled. BSG was great from the start. I really hope it keeps going for a good few more seasons. Oh and I hope they NEVER EVER EVER find Earth the same way the second outing of the original did.. you know, the 80's one with Dick Van Dike's son in and the flying invisible bikes that nobody talks about anymore hehe.

You might want to download the episodes you've missed.

If you haven't seen the pilot movie you must check it out. Really good stuff.

I loved that scene too DarkElf, spinning in his chair with a blissful grin (completely self absobed and guilt free, despite having killed milliopns of ppl. Such a good character, and strangely likeable :))

I aslo like the relationship between the commander and his son.

Agreed.

My absolute favourite is Babylon 5. The first series wasn't that great, but 2-5 are fantastic (Straczynski is a genius)

Star Trek is good, but simply can't compare. BSG is looking like it might :)

Baltar and Starbuck scenes, that poker game lol. I know what you mean about him being so likeable, I used to think John Colicos couldn't be replaced but this guy just wins hands down, strangely cute too haha.

You forgot the scenes on the planet too :) I think those go a long way to making it addictive, being able to pull off two separate storylines, almost like two different shows effortlessly, the one that was just on was a bitch of a cliffhanger though wasn't it lol. It's probably the only show that actually has me thinking beyond the basics what might happen next. Hotsoup being another big fan of it, we're usually on IRC discussing it all in depth, its just so well made, tactically too. And the cylons are now just a complete mystery, they strike me as like the unwanted child coming home and just wanted to be loved, though a strange way of getting attention :)

The second this series is on DVD its mine, watch all the episodes back to back one weekend just before the second series starts hehe.

Now I know what it feels like to be a trekkie lol.

Oh and don't forget, in the original there was the pegasus that appeared.. im sure thats gonna turn up eventually in this one (cheap storyline to do, same bridge and galactica sets with minor changes) (I'm guessing its going to be connected to the homeworld part of the story, since thats quite a ways off from the fleet now)

I should stop before i start spoiling it for the US lot :)

The last episode I saw had the election for vice president. Is that the latest one?

I'm waiting for this show. Impatiently.
Battlestar Galactica premieres in Australia on the Network Ten, sometime early this year.

You better watch it :p

Stupid tv coorporations wanting money! It will most likely not air here for another year, if it airs at all... scifi series aren't that popular with big tv companies I hear.

*cough*download them*cough*

I did :) (having the uncanny ability to constantly miss shows on the tv leaves no other choice)

I have some morality issues with downloading stuff, especially tv shows (my dad works at one of finlands 4 tv stations). So I tend to avoid downloading stuff as much as possible.

So long as you still BUY the DVD's when those are released, otherwise your killing the shows chances of making a profit, low profit, no new episodes.

Yep, more pople downloading = less viewers of the show on the tv channel. Bad for the show AND the tv station, since they get less money for their commercials. Atleast this is how it would work and how it works here in Finland.

The DVD sales will be what it needs, so if people still download them when those are available, they'll just kill off the chances of new episodes, spoiling it for everyone including themselves :(

Anyone know a bit torrent site too where i can get the episodes, or is that naughty to ask?

I see little wrong with downloading an episode if you've missed it on tv.

But you guys are right, watch it on tv if you get the option :)

Can't ask for such things here, and people can't answer.

I might just buy it on DVD and make TDE a happy bunny.

(after I complete my 24 DVD collections)

Yeah, but if everyone downloads them from the internet, there will be no tv channels, since they get all their money from commercial sales(most anyway). And in Finland it works by measuring how many viewers there are during the commercial break of a program. So less viewers = less money. And less money = less good tv shows that they can air = less good tv shows made = bad for everybody.

Well I dunno about over there, but over here its kinda hard to work out who watches what station at any given time. It's mostly decided on with polls, guesswork and those random families that are meant to represent everyone else.

This is now one of my fav shows. Except for that EarthSea crap Scifi has been making good shows as of late.

When is the dvd coming out, i saw the mini series and it looked ok. Still a bit annoyed that they turned the Cylons from killer robots into sex crazed blondes though :(.

The mini-series kinda gave people that impression, myself included. But the series does away with it, I guess they paid attention to how so many people complained about it and wanted things to be closer to how they were, so there's now a lot of regular cylons around (though still the newer design)

The human variety are the remakes replacement for the Imperious Leader from the original series, so take the role of running things, causing paranoia etc. The familiar looking versions are still there and turn up often.

I had watched the Miniseries compressed into the movie on Sky's movie channels. And for some reason I loved it, but not just the story and Characters but the setting. It all seemed very modern-day space-age rather than clean sci-fi.

Great settings and inspiration. But then again. I never really saw the first.

The original was good, and still is. The remake is just so much more polished with lots of attention to detail.

The new Cylons look pretty cool, though we only see one flash of them on the ad running at the moment. Are they puppets or CG? They certainly don't look like people in suits.

The cylons are all CG now, except for a couple of shots (possibly)

You see plenty of them in the series, the mini-series didn't show really how often they are used, in the series there everywhere. The human versions as I say are like replacements for the imperious leaders crossed with lucifer crossed with the gold cylons that ran things.

Never really saw the original series. I hear it was pretty good, though it's often used as an example of the old cheap trick of recycling spaceship flyby shots, isn't it?

ok yeah BSG original was guilty of reusing the same shots from the first episode/film for every episode after that. But considering the budget the show was at (very high for its time) they had to cut corners somewhere.

It was still great fun though :D

The basestars looked better in the original, and i do kinda miss the raiders though the cylon ships now are pretty cool (but im not gonna do a spoiler by telling you why and which episode) :p
