The new Battlestar Gallactica series

Basestars?

I'm gonna go look the original series up on the intarweb...
Basestars were the cylons base ships. The human version was the battlestars. The remake's battlestars still look similar to the originals, but the basestars now look like big spidery looking objects, before they were more like two discs stuck together (looks better than it sounds)

The colonial vipers still look similar to the original, well they look better now. The cylon raiders look completely different and remind me more of the car in knightrider with wings on. But look better than it sounds.

Well, I gotta say, part one of Kobol's last gleaming was WOW.

I wont put any spoilers, not even with a spoiler space cause trust me, it'll be too much for anyone to resist taking a peek :E

Can't wait until next Monday's episode, looks like the first series is really gonna end on a very high note. Second series hasn't a chance of not being made now.

Best damn show ever.

Oh bugger - missed it again :/

Another DL for me it seems.

Don't you guys have Tivo in the UK?

If so I recommend investing in a DVR, they're lovely. I never miss any episode of any show I want to watch.

Actually, after a bit of snooping around, it appears you do have it:

Most have sky+ same thing basically.

Meh. The 1st one is showing here (retro wave on a cable channel). I hope they show this one next.

This series rocks. I am a fan out of the 70's and this new series is far advanced in every detail. My wife is not a big fan of any scfi but we sat down and watch the dvd the week before the series started. She was hooked. The way the story is written it gets you caught up with the people. I have come to expect nothing but excellent CG these days so its important to develop to roles and the story line. I think SCFI has a winner and expect to see this series go the distance. This is much better than the original in terms of story, effects and acting. Looking forward to every episode this season and those to come.

Now that I've seen the first episodes in the series, my first impressions:

1. I love the new basestars, they're just plain menacing. Remind me a little of the shadow ships from B5.

2. After seeing a bit of what's going on on Caprica the cylons are acting a bit schizophrenic. I can't figure out what the hell they think they're up to, and I love it.

3. Baltar is fun. Not "there's a guy I'd like to be best friends with" fun, more "morbidly entertaining" fun. The level of self absorbtion he's been capable of so far is astounding.

4. I can't figure out if "Mind-Six"'s obsession with religion is something that was part of her cover personality or if it's genuine, but either way it's just all kinds of interesting coming from an AI.

5. I also can't figure out if "Mind-Six" is actually there or a product of Baltar's psyche. So far she hasn't done or said anything that he couldn't have done himself on a subconscious level. (If this is revealed in later episodes don't go spoiling it for me anyone)

6. "33" was perhaps the highest tension episode of a Sci-Fi series I've ever seen... very well done.

7. While I think the whole Boomer situation is going to be fascinating as it plays out I didn't like a couple of her reactions to the events in "water", they just came across as a little too disingenuous. They seemed kind of... forced.

I'm sure I'll think of other stuff later.

I remember one of the old Battlestar Galactica feature length episodes(might have been the movie) where they stop at a planet that has secretly been taken over by the Cylon’s and they find people being eaten in the basement. Gave me a recurring nightmare that episode!

I remember the original being always a bit tongue in cheek, for instance there was that dog that the kid had, this one's a lot more serious. The chemistry is also missing between Apollo and Starbuck I find in the new one.

I still like the new one! It's just...different!

There's plenty of chemistry between those two in the new series, more so now Starbuck is female.

I don't think so. I just don't think they click. Also the fact that Starbuck is female is most probably the reason why the chemistry isn't the same. Starbuck and Apollo from the original series had their humerous moments, in the new one it's all serious about their relationship!

Have you watched all the episodes yet? (well baring the very last one cause its not been shown) It all fits into place then with them both. There's plenty going on, its just more subtle/realistic instead of the Morecambe and wise pairing from the original. Besides the original Apollo fits in the new show, moreso when you know he was given the part to shut him up and that all what went on behind the scenes with his version vs this one, is strangely similar to the part he plays hehe.

I finally watched the most recent episode, and bloody hell it's good :)

Hopefully there will be many more series after this one, it would be a crime otherwise.

The characters are quite one dimensional, apart from Adama, Boomer and Apollo. Starbuck is especially one dimensional.

Oh, does anyone remember the title sequence to the A-Team, with the Cylon and Starbuck/Race, hehehehehhee.

I watched this recently. I didn't like it much at all. There was too much of a "cheese factor" for me. The acting was plain bad in a lot of areas, and as Razor said, makes them seem 1-D. It kind of reminded me of that Hercules series on Channel 5, but not as well acted. It was also trying to follow about 6 different stories at once. And that Boomer girl telling the guy "i'm pregnant", I knew she was going to say that before she even said it, and i've never even seen previous episodes, bad script. And switching characters from male to female, not good.

Give me Star Trek any day, Galactica just feels cheap compared to it.

Well I finally saw the last episode. I wont spoil things but damnit what an ending! grrrrr lol. If they don't make a second series I swear I will swing for someone :p

OMGOMGOMG the series is coming to DVD in 2 months!?? YES! just in time for me to beg it for my birthday hahaha excellent, thats me sorted then :D

Digging up old threads...I just watched almost all 13 episodes yesterday, there was a marathon on the SciFi channel, amazing series :)

The series did nothing for me apart from piss me off at how they destroy the Cylons and turned them into sex crazed maniacs...and turned Starbuck into an alcoholic woman...:|

That's a shame cause BSG is the best Sci-fi thing going

I'm just going to have to get the whole thing on DVD, because I missed quite a few episodes. Those that I did see I enjoyed though.

You've never seen Star Wars, Star Trek or Stargate then?
