Just finishing updating as we speak, I'm about to run downstairs to check it out. Any thoughts, praise, hatred, or illegible feelings?

Discuss.

It's kinda cool, actually. Alot of unnessecary stuff but in the end, it's a nice welcome change from the norm.

Seems good. I'm BM85 by the way.

Has this "Install game to HD" thing always been there? I didn't realise.

There aren't enough items that you can customise the colours with yet. Only a few.

Love that I can install games, the optical drive on the 360 is horrendously loud and keeps me from playing my games.

Waiting to get my 360 back from repairs. I've missed out on alot of good games the past few weeks because of the damn RRoD. Now I just missed the NXE.

I think its quite cool.

Completely ripping off Nintendo in ways but hey, its a nice change.

Its more logically structured as well, which is nice, and the xbox dashboard whilst playing is much smaller and better structured in terms of layout.

I'm waiting to purchase a 360.....and then get a TV larger than 15 inches made in 1985.....

Has anyone figured out how to remove the channels that don't have an option panel to do so?
I fot rid of the welcome one, now I'm trying to throw out the 'What's Hot' one or whatever it's called

aside from the avatars, i'm really liking the update so far
everything runs alot faster, it's easier to navigate, there's a party system and MOST OF ALL i can play at my monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050! no more stretched images!

Aside from ripping off Nintendo, Apple, and Sony, I think this is a TON better than the old interface. Those other guys did lots of stuff right so throwing it all together in one package can't be that bad of an idea, right? Sadly, with a 20GB HDD, it is more of a tease to have them ask me if I want to install a game. :(

I honestly haven't noticed is it something you have to download yourself or is it a automatic update?

Kinda makes me want to buy a larger 360 HD, but you can't actually play the HD installed games without the disc, right?

My 360 just left the door for repair after months of procrastination, hopefully I can get it back soon so I can try this out. :x

I'm probably going to buy an extra big HDD as well, my 20GB is already more than half full and I don't want to settle for an overheating, loud xbox just because I don't have any space for Gears of War 2 or something.

I tried it out. it was pretty good. I was hoping that this update would abolish alot of the freezing I got with the previous update. I only got like 20 friends, and when viewing them before it would freeze and be slow and unresponsive.

The avatars are quite cool. I tried making mine look like me, and even managed to choose a 'left cheekbone freckle' or whatever - just like me in real life.

The in game messenger hasn't changed. Still as slow as it is, but I guess it's more about gaming than socializing with friends who don't own an Xbox 360.

I can't get the new updates for the 360, ****ing thing got RROD (the 1/4 rings, not the 3/4 rings). It's the E-74 error message, and I'm still waiting for the ****ing box to come in, I ordered it for it on friday and I need it to put the 360 in to send it in for repairs.

Whats even more annoying? My manufacterer waranty expires soon and apparently they are "busy" with repairs in NY of RROD.

read somewhere that they dont do xbox coffins any more ..they just email you an address you print out and stick onto your own box

so it's NXE out for the general public? if so will try tonight

I quite like the avatar thing, prefer it to the Wii's version.

How to change backgroundsing?

If you go to 'My Xbox' - press A on the gamercard/avatar bit and from there you'll be able to change the theme. There's only a few. If you've got any pictures on a memory stick or something you should be able to set them as the background image too. Although with the new dashboard you won't see much of them. :(

Generally though I'm liking what I'm seeing, even if the avatars are a bit cack. The old one was definitely getting more than a bit stale.

Its pretty cool, makes using it alot easier.

Avatars are pretty neat.

Lol when you move the avatar's head around in some directions he makes different facial expressions.

No they still do them, I got mine in the mail today.

Pretty cool.

Pros:
+ Interface is a lot smoother in parts.
+ The new guide button is so much better.
+ NATIVE RESOLUTIONS!!

Cons:
- Avatars are pretty limited, couldn't really get my likeness right, so I'm just some bearded weirdo.
- Interface is still laggy in parts, like messaging and getting in/out of the guide while in games.
- Native resolutions in 16:10 cause letterboxing. >_< >_< >_<

All in all an improvement, but nothing to write home about.

monocles.

Yeah this update is pretty sweet. Installed Banjo to the HD and the loading times were noticeably shorter. WOOOP.

I got a message from Halo 3 when I put it on that installing the game to the HDD would make it run worse than playing it off the DVD.

What the ****? How is it even possible to design something that reads slower while being read from a faster medium?

Not that bad of an update, pretty much updated the now 3 year old interface that needed it, frankly. Some neat improvements here and there, although I'd like to get rid of some of the stupid stuff menus like Emporious was talking about.

I'm really curious to see how Oblivion will perform after installed on the HD, seeing how that was plagued with tons of loading screens.

That's what I was thinking. That drove me mad whenever I played it, luckily I could quickly switch between TV and xbox

So can I get this with my Live subscription expired?

EDIT: Yep, and I have. I guess Xbox Silver works for it.

I'm checking out sites that give trial memberships for Xbox gold... I wonder if I can never pay for gold again somehow doing these... lol. Then again, I doubt this is even possible.

It took me a good 15 minutes to change the theme.

Oh man. My guy looks homo.

I need to change him up more. I didn't spend much time on him. And it's not exactly supposed to be me. I wish you could change the clothing colors.
