What will the next generation video cards be? Will they be existing cards such as the ATI X800 and Nvidia 6800 series, but with 512mb and 1Gig ram? Will they be new chipsets alltogether?

I currently have a geforce4 ti4200 and I'm waiting for the next generation to upgrade.

Most likly just updated versions of the current cards.

A bit faster clockspeeds. possibly more memory.
Updated support for things like SM3 on the ATI side.

I think they will be relative to the gap between a 9700 and a 9800.

well, as far as i know, the 512mb versions of the geforce 6800 and the radeon x800 are coming out towards the end of this year

also, it's my understanding that for it to be considered to be a new generation, it needs to be a bigger leap than just more memory. think about the 9800 xt being one generation, and the x800 xt being the generation after that. pretty big difference.

it would have to be the x1000x : :rolling:

A new "generation" introduces new features, and indeed, major leaps. "Oh, you can do it like that... Okay, then we'll put it in this, that's a 40% performance increase!" = Next generation.
