I recently bought the strategy guide and was looking through the bestiary....I'm wondering if these are all the enemies we will encounter through the game? I thought valve said there would be 50 enemies you'd face throughout the game...does anyone know if this guide is hiding something because it doesn't want to spoil any surprises in the game?

I didn't read it, but you may want to put spoiler tags on, put a note in the topic title or post in the spoiler forum....

Why would the strategy guide leave things out? :| "Oh yeah, there's a few enemies and weapons in the game we haven't mentioned. But we're not gonna tell you what they are, where to find them or how to deal with them, because they're secret! sssh!!"

Face it, Valve cut loads of things from the game, for whatever reason. I just hope that they cut them because they weren't working out as planned, or were useless.

Actually, a strategy guide might leave out a few enemies that they couldn't fit, in fact, i've seen it happen ALOT.

no, they cut them so you didnt have to wait untill 2005 to play the game (why do you think hydra was cut, game magically went from 27 hours to like 16, ect...)

I've seen pics of the bullsquid and it's not even mentioned in the bestiary...so, that's why I'm asking...

Well i can tell you they're missing the black helicopter from the E3 videos.

I remember Gabe commenting that they didn't want to cut things just to get the game out quicker in the Gamespot article, so I doubt that...I'm guessing they just weren't fun, or they got better ideas...as for the length, well developers always say it's longer than it really is. Look at Halo 2, is was meant to be twice as long as the original, and ended up being only a few hours long...there's also the fact that they cut locations from the game as well, like the Borealis, who knows what else they cut...
