I know, I know. Everybody's sick of this sound freeze/pause/stutter problem. What I would like to ask is: Is there a good collection of problems and possible solutions posted together? I now have a substantial problem when none existed when I first installed and played the game. I did upgrade my video drivers, (time for specs)

Pentium 4 2.6 400 FSB no overclocking
Geforce 6800 GT no overclocking Forceware 71.89
Audigy2 Platinum latest drivers
1 GIG corsair 3200 memory.
Mobo MSI Neo2 865 PE

As I said I have upgraded, cleaned out, and re-installed just about every Forceware release and the same problem occurs. No change. Also there is no change with older or newer Creative sound drivers. My system configuration hasn't changed. I tried reducing Hardware acceleration at all settings. No change. I did the console line (I forget the exact line but it's the Valve suggested one) and no change. The only time this game played o.k. was before Steam could apply it's updates. Do we have any control over these automatic updates other than never going online? This is a great game that pulled me in at first. Now It's just a headache to play. I haven't played it too much because of this. I'm at the point after the wild boat ride and into the hanger with all the great mayhem. Problem is every time a loud noise happens there is a one or two second freeze. I don't want to have to play through the game like this. Help! Lastly, before this problem occured the game played beautifully with this this exact config. So I know my system can handle it with room to spare. :sniper:

could be a latency issue - i had the same problem with morrowind + 200 or so mods - i got a latency tool, it helps a bit, i decreased latency for my graphics card and upped my soundcard - i havent had any problems in half-life, and my soundcard is rubbish (cost my 8 quid!) i'll look for the subject in the elderscrolls forums, to try to find the link - it's only a small download

I have the exact same stutter problem, but no one can give me a clear answer either...

I finally found a partial way to fix it. Set the graphics on the lowest settings (not real lowest, but the medium, or all low except textures) and set the vsync to enable, get the creative mixer to fix any problems, and some other setting that my dad did, and my sound is just a little better. I can at least play the game..

Mine just started after getting a new gfx card, but its retarded to have to turn the graphics lower than the old one just to hear better...

Use the beta 71.84's. I used to get stuttering when using 71.89's. Hell, I even used to get memory read erros. All went away with a reformat and 71.84's.
