Despite the fact that I loathe the arguement over whether Halo 2 or Half-Life 2 is better, the deciding factor is, and always will be, what the people decide.

We are all going off these reviews we see on websites or magazines. The fact is, I have played many games that got good reviews that I hated (DOOM 3). And games that got mediocre reviews that I loved (Planetside).

In 6 months the people will have spoken and will have come to a decision. The only way to filter out all the fanboi's and those that are biased is to give it time.

I think HL2 will win in the long run once the hype for both Halo and Half-life have died down.

Well one thing to be said Halo2 has multi. I still think UT2004 instagib is way better then Halo.

Well, the original Half-life was something glorious as it shifted the first person shooters onto higher level by implementing a interesting storyline and in-game scripted sequences. Now if HL2 does the same, it will create yet another ascension :D

So i conclude that Halo 2 might be fun, but not as interesting as HL2.

The people don't care. :p

Console games and PC games are dramatically different, in terms of sales, ratings and gameplay.

A great console shooter is a rarity.
A great PC shooter is the standard.
As such, two games of equal worth would be graded differently, depending on their platform.
Half-life 2 will be compared with Farcry, Doom 3, painkiller, etc.
Halo 2 will be compared with pretty much only Halo 1. Maybe Goldeneye.

So it's a baseless comparison. Like comparing Everybody Loves Raymond with Star Wars.

 First, on November 9th, people are going to think Halo 2 is better. When Half Life 2 comes out it'll be neck and neck, but it'll be up and down; Half Life 2 having more ups. Then things will settle down a bit... neck and neck again. Then mods start coming out(Half Life 2) and Half Life 2 and it's mods will own for awhile, then new maps for Halo 2 will be released via Xbox Live, and some other crap, then they will be neck and neck again. And then Halo 2 for PC comes out again, and it's a direct port from Xbox - which is shitteh. Once again Half Life 2 will own. From there on STALKER finally comes out and shits on both. Except for Half Life 2.

Then the gaming community splits into factions Console-ublicans Vs. PC-emocrats.

Indeed. Judgements 6 months from now will be better at assessing how each game affected the industry and conciousness of GAMERS.

Will everyone start copying Valves idea of heavily integrating physics into the gameplay? Will the mod community be gigantic? Will we get more FPS games willing to tell an interesting story rather than simply placing people in situations (eg MOH series).

I feel Half-life 2 is going to offer people more reasons to come back it over and over again, be it for mods or simply to play the single player again. Like i've said before when you buy Half-Life 2 you're buying a way of life.©™

I really don't mind that much......halo 2 will be console game of the year........hl2 will be pc game of the year (closely followed by a couple of others.....) and then some idiot will be assigned the job of calling game of the year....... now whether they base that on the actual game or on crappy hype or sales or what will be interesting.....

:naughty: I bet you Zelda will take Game of the Year. Wait, is that coming out this year?

Can we go back to the Doom3 vs. Half Life 2. At least in those days, the 'opposition' could make valid arguments. Where did Halo2 vs. Half Life 2 come from? It's not even close.
