After a great wave of people from somewhere by link, the MB will go into disarray. Spammers will begin to take over the main parts of the MB, most likely the General Forum. Then the General forum will be roped off by the mods and deemed inhabitable by anyone wanting to start a real discussion. Normal members entering the Genral Forum will either disappear or be stricken with a strange form of insanity babbling vulgarities, bludgeoning anything that breathes, and finally suffering an untimely death of full-body explosion. Matching heads with torsos to send home to the folks will become a full-time job. Like a virus the spammers and idiots will spread through out the forum. The Off-Topic forum will be the last place of refuge for the normal members. A great war will break out between the normal members and the spammers. Banning will be used, topic and post deletion will be everywhere, and the smell of what use to be will be stuck in the air. This is the prophecy of message boards.

So, my question is: Now after all this time, is it still true?

In my opinion the General Forum has cooled down a bit from what it was when the Prophecy was posted. Unfortunately the Off-Topic Forum has become infested at times. Also, with the banning of Gorgon this place has come to a higher-level of peace again.

I think we are gradually recovering from what PHL released on the boards. So I belive we may just prove this prophecy wrong.

So, what do you think?

It seems as thought that when the site went down it cleaned things up for the moment.

Gorgon's banned? Joy. :)

I think everything has cooled down a bit, and that's good.

edit: Gorgon's avatar pissed me off royally. :)

It's over... we are rid of the infestation, nearly, occasionally I see an spamtopic.... or a repeat of what was posted before, by the same member... and usually I get to 'em, and delete 'em. Remember, we have two off-topic only mods now... and me or Farrow check OT every half hour or so :)

Yeah they've calmed down a bit since AAAAAAAARGH SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM BOOBIES HAHAHAHA the site went down so I think it's YEEEEEEEEEEEEAH WHO WANTS SOME SPAM WHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IVE GOT A PANCAKE gonna be alrite

Well I thought it was going to be better but it looks as though they may be finding thier way back again after seeing this thread.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3727

Granted that may be a stupid question but 1 post would have settled it, "Yes". That's all it would have taken, but instead people felt the need to go off about it.

Ooops, I think I had a rant attack.

Edit* Good job to the mod that closed that thread by the way.

I would have closed it..... but my power doesn't extend beyond this forum here. I just told Onions about it... and he did it straight away... GJ Onions

Yeah, weird isnt it? I would even go as far as saying that we're at the highest sanity level yet since I joined in May.

The worst was probably June 30 - July 15 when 100's of spammers (lead by Guinny) would put at least 10 topics each day saying "when will HL2 media come out???"

/me slaps LoneDeranger

Yeh, that was crazy man. I bet the bandwidth bills went through the roof.

What was the final thing that made you ban Gorgon? Will he be unbanned at some point (please god, no :))?

Where is guinny anyways? Don't see him too often, he wasn't banned in the end was he? I thought he just got a smack on the bottom and straightened up.

No he's still around and makeing the same ol' posts complaining about everyones intelligence level and post quality.

Personally I don't like Gorgon. He sounds like an immature little twelve year old. "Oh yea!?!!1!?! wel since u proved me wrong ill kik ur ass in hl2!!!!!!!!!1111!!!1111!!!! my name will be gorgon!!!!1! remeber that name when ur geting ur ass kiked by me!!!!!!!!!!111111!!!!!!!!!1!!!"

Right now there arent many noobs, which im very happy about. I guess they all got discouraged with the down-time.

Yeh, at this rate we will have an end like this soon.

*Camera flys slowly up a tall building labeled halflife2.net message board. A voice starts mid way to the top

The final banning was an exclamation point to everything that had led up to this point. I released my finger from the enter key. Then it was over.

/me is hit in the head with a brick before he can finish for making a plug at 'Max Payne'.

/me hides the other brick behind my back..............

I didn't do it :|

I hope we can have a relatively n00b free experiance atlest until the game comes out. When that happens I think we'll be overrun with them.

keep up the good work guys, i go on these forums to learn about news concerning halflife 2. I don't come here to have to deal with 13 year old 1337 speaking CS players with all the self control skills of the below average chimpanzee.

Thanks for keeping the forum a chimp free zone *thumbs up*

oh yes...septmeber 29th will be the last day of peace (only slightly disturbed by that "TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY! WOOT! OMG OMG YAY!"-threads). After that, its outright war. Noobs will come and come and ask the same stupid questions over and over. One after one, the serious players will leave the board and go elsewere.

/me rises up and asks for volunteers to stand up against this unholy n00b army ........

I sure hope it doesn't get like that, if it does I'll probablly start coming by once a week and only lurking.

Actually, I'll be the one doing all the work on the 29th :p

Just imagine what will happen if on September 30th Valve will say "HL2 is delayed". Man.. I don't even want to check Internet after that statement.

I'd suggest Munro would have to nuke the forums and start over ;)

i feel that you are wrong, on september i think everyone will be too busy playing hl2 to post... unless its delayed like u said if so im coming here to observe the madness

Also, hopefully when people do post they will be asking questions on how to get past parts. (And then I will start serving my purpose on these Forums.)

It won't be as bad as the PHL link. We are only linked to many smaller, less traffic, websites. Not something as big as PHL.

Oh no, I'm not gona come back to the forums until I finish HL2. I don't wan't some n00b to spoil the game for me by posting a topic like "what do i do after i blow up teh citadel???"

be assured that they will ask in the dozends. With much-saying threadtitles like "NEED HELP!!!!11 PLIIIISE!!!!". and we better develop a "use the searchengine"-smilie until then, cause it will be used extensivly...
