No idea if he's old or not. I did a forum search and didn't find anything, so my guess is most people haven't heard this stuff.

I discovered a YTMND anime rant and wanted to find the whole thing. Well, I came across The Ranting Gryphon. And I love it. Obviously, you may not be too pleased if you're a big fan of anime. But I personally can't stand it, so this was right up my alley. He also covers a bunch of other topics you may find to your liking. There are some things I disagree with, but when he hits on something I do agree with, he basically expresses it in a way that's similar to how I feel in my heart of hearts.

If by "hits the nail right on the head" you mean "sounds like every other person who complains about anime after seeing one or two" then yes I agree.

Seriously try to relate it to something YOU like. Absinthe, someone could listen to a few tracks of Aphex Twin and then say every track he has ever made sucks ass. Also that computer music has no soul or feel because it's not like a guitar. Also the person thinks it's empty because it has no lyrics.

That's pretty much what this guy is saying about anime.

Stupid arguments that are just plain false as well as a limited knowledge on the subject.

His rants are pretty funny but if you honestly agree with his ridiculous "points" then you... are... a dumby head.

I happen to like anime. I don't care if you don't. Most fans of anime disagree with me on this. They're gonna tell you you probably haven't seen the right anime, you should watch this this and this, and if you still don't like it you're stupid.

But he's not being ignorant. Anime fans sound like that. Trust me, I go to anime cons. I just got BACK from an anime con. They all ****ing sound like that.

I don't know about you but I felt that most of his rant was about the people who overblow anime and consider it the best thing in the world rather then anime itself, though he does take a stab at it a couple of times.

Also, I'd like to mention that I have seen my fair share of anime and the ONLY two series I can say I enjoyed are Evangelion and FLCL.

True, but... I don't care. I've never seen anime that I've liked. The "serious" ones are boring and dull. The "funny" ones aren't suiting to my taste in humor. I don't like the aesthetic or the animation. I tire of sex-bomb heroines and long-haired male protagonists. I don't like the dubs and I don't like reading translations.

The difference between comparing Aphex Twin to anime is that Aphex is but one artist in a vast genre. Anime is the genre. Besides this is pretty much intended to be comedy, not a coherent, thought-out critique. If you admit that it's pretty much just for laughs, I think it's kinda misplaced to then turn around and say "But his arguments suck".

Haha that was perfect. It was hillarious and made very good points. To some of us we can't buy into the crap excuses of stories that anime offers. It is kind of like religion, if you aren't subdued into the mindset you aren't going to. I love how this guy made fun of the anime nerds saying how every time he makes fun of anime one of the nerds pops out from under the neerest rock and defends anime as if anyone cares. Oh and look, one of them stumbled into this thread claiming the ranter was biased as if vegeta wasn't.

The guy made good points and added lots of humor into it. Anime nerds should stay away from those of us who can't stomach watching that garbage because our views aren't going to change.

Maybe there is anime out there that I would like. Just like there might be country music out there that I like. But seeing as how I've never been close to coming across either, I don't think it's ignorant for me to assume that it simply ain't my bag.

I don't see why I'm biased. I'm not saying he's an idiot for not liking anime. I'm not saying anyone is. A lot of his points are true and funny about crazy anime-goers, but, for example when he says you can't understand inflection or emotion in a voice just because it's in another language, is bullcrap. Yes, I am more likely to point out his false logic because I do like anime, but that doesn't make me biased if it doesn't affect the truth of what I'm saying.

Absinthe, er, about the Aphex Twin comparison, I chose Aphex specifically because he has a lot of diverse styles. Yes you could compare it to one artist out of the whole electronic genre, that works too. So say he listens to a large portion of Aphex and doesn't like any of it, does that give him the right to say all electronic music is balls? No...

Please stop assuming I'm like every other anime freak trying to defend it and call you stupid for not liking something I do, and actually read my post and stop assuming things.

Like the crazy Anime people, yeah they are there, yeah they are annoying...but I can take comfort in the fact that I'm not one of them. I love anime to death, and most cases, I enjoy watching them, unless they are the cheap, under budgeted, piles of shit. But will I assault people because they don't like it? I don't know of many cars that have a slow accelleration with a high top speed...unless they were built like that. But in most cases, if they have an extremely top speed, they have an extremely fast acceleration.

Blame the ricers, it's always the ricers. Besides cars a meh this is better. The wheels/rims on my Camry are worth more than the rest of the car these days.

Comparatively speaking i.e. the selection of any performance mods or just the difference in performance with very similar makes.

Yeah that is another group that is getting almost as bad as the anime nerds. Their cars look better stock and I am sure are a lot faster without the extra weight of a shitty body kit and over sized spoiler.

So what makes it a piece of shit? Oh right, it's 'slower' than theirs. The funny thing is, a guy in a VTEC hatchback Civic told me that, and to give him the benefit of the doubt, I believed him. Well, until I started pulling on him, that's what I was busting up. Them him and his 2 other friends in an Eclipse and Accord did a "ricer" fly by on me pretending to be so much faster...made me laugh more. That's ok. His Civic wasn't rice, it was actually quick on it's toes.

I go to a school where everyone but me and 5 other people in total like Anime. Many of them DO dress up like them. Just yesterday I counted three guys who wore big retarded goggles on their head. You cant walk through the hallways without seeing at least one person with an Anime shirt on, doing something really wierd or nerdy. Usually they are running full speed down the corridor, for absolutely no reason. Whenever I sit in the lounge with my friends, you can overhear at least three obnoxious conversations about Anime. Shit, its almost worse than the World of Warcraft pandemic. Almost.

In fact, the only people I can think of right now that actually like Anime, and whom I actually like, are my cousin, and Darkside. <3. Im sure that some of the people in my class who I like are anime fans too, but as far as I can tell they dont talk about it every damn second.

Oh, and one of the guys who wears goggles lives in my apartment complex. I see him everyday, and he wears them every day on the top of his head.
