The real reasons behind the delay?
According to an article on Reuters, Christophe Ramboz recently told French daily Les Echos: "A third of the source code was stolen. It's serious because it forces us to delay the launch of the game by at least four months, that is to April 2004. Just the time to rewrite parts of the game."
Ok, why would having 1/3 of the source code stolen delay the game another 4 months? Did they not have a backup so the 1/3 is missing. I doubt it. If so they could just download it like probably everyone on this site did. Are they totally rewriting all the code that was stolen? Maybe but that doesn't make sense because 1/3 of the code does no one any good and I can't see them writing it that fast since it has taken them years to get this far.
I believe they never intended to meet the September 30th date and waited until that date was close to push it back 3 months and then they purposely leaked beta or generic code so they could use that as an excuse to get 7 months to finish. Basically they are saying "hey we are about a year behind still."
