I've been part of the AllGames.com forums since launch, and for a while, it had the reputation system. It seemed okay at first, but as the forum got more and more populated, the system started to get abused profusely. It was removed, because it was causing too much drama. Let's save ourself the time here and not go with the reputation system. It's just not worth it.

Those are all bad ideas.

What is the point of a reputation system? The purpose it serves is on advice-giving forums, like tech forms and stuff like that, where people don't usually hang around unless they are nice and know what they are talking about, and help the newbies who usually don't stay around for very long. What purpose would it serve on this forum, which is mostly reliant on conversation? Seeing how other members "rate" you? Nobody gives a shit. On top of all that, its a bitch to moderate and be fair.

Advanced Members? Why would we need that? So other members who "contribute" to the forum get a flashy title? How does one "contribute" to hl2.net, anyways? The things you listed all seem pretty lame or stupid, especially being able to see invisible users. They are invisible for a reason, even if you're a nice person...

Welcome screen? I hate popups. :p

I'd like to have a 100 question questionnaire where they have to get at least 96 correct before their account is activated.

They do something like this on another forum I visit. It has questions like:

"If I need to know about ___BLANK___ where would I post?"
A1. Forum1
A2. Forum2
A3. I'd search first because I'm not a retard
Best F**king idea EVER! Our own anti-moron test! Admin take note! Do it. Do it. DO IT. :bounce:

Whats wrong with the forums as they are, why are people turning up and trying to change everything when it been SO successful like 'this' without all this rubbish added onto it. People just trying to make a name for themselves, and the one who changed it. We simple folk like things as they are. The mods kick arse when need be, everyone else just gets on and chats about what we wanna talk about rather than get any kind of reputation in colours, numbers or points of any kind.

You earn proper reputations here, by being the person you are. We don't need any systems to show it. The people who have been here long enough all know each other and like each other for being themselves. **** brownie points, we are mostly mates, and its best left like that.
QFT
and Shasta, I thought you died or just stopped posting.

While we're at it, lets make the entire site into an RPG, with stats that can be upgraded as you post more! Oh, and the "reputation" system means that other forumites will be nicer to you, and more likely to give you quests! You can create "Guilds", where forumites band together and beat down "trolls"!

Now I'm going to spam 1,000 posts so I can level up to 40 and get the "moderator" class! Then I'll be able to learn the spells "Ban" and "IP check"! I'd better make some pointless threads too- I want to get bad reputation so I can become a devil and sprout wings and go around burning people with my flames.

NO! lol!

Lol. Nope, just touching myself a lot lately.

Glad you all missed me. :)

no...the last thing we need is more elitist forum members thinking they're cool because they're an "advanced member". And the rep system could be completely abused like badger said...

I like the reputation thing. I've seen it done on a lot of forums.

Reputation system is always abused, the 3-4 forums I've been to have had so many issues with people abusing it all of them basically removed it. ITS USELESS.

I've been established with a few forums who have tried Reputation systems, in my honest opinion, they suck :( Basically it labels members into class/levels. New people feel like they don't want to stay around and fufill they're low class prophicy !!1

Nice idea though...definately worth debating.
