Out of human fascination, I was looking at pictures of sperm whales and records of sightings and such, and I came accross this.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/Natio...Tasmanian-coast/2004/12/27/1103996485483.html
I read the first paragraph, and was a bit confused at first. They found a dead whale beached, but were worried that the carcass would hit yachts.
Ok, so I read it again.
So there's a mass death of whales in the harbor, and the yachts mights sink?
I think to myself, wait a second, yachts? Only snooty rich bastards pilot those.
I reread again, and at first was in awe at how selfish these people were (these majestic creatures were dying in droves, and they don't want to lose their yachts!), then I just cracked up. Human nature and selfishness just was so entertaining in its simplest reported form.
Dunno if you'll get the same kick out of it as I did, but i'm still trying to figure out about where dead whales figure into this. Maybe finishing the article would help (I just read the first line over and over).
EDIT: Listen to "It's A Beautiful Day" while you're reading it.
Oh and I finaly figured it out, but get this, they're trying to recover the lower jaws of all the whales to "help autopsie them". How the hell is a goldmine of ivory gonna help you autopsie a creature of such magnitude and grace?
