the shock stick

The prod was one of my favs in Deus Ex. Oh, and it wasn't permanent.
One possibility (well not anymore) is to have the shocker power down after a combine dies, because it is somehow linked to the combines energy. Maybe they generate some type of energy while alive, who knows. (Everyone who read this thread)

Speaking of throwing bodies, I know that the manipulator wont affect enemies, but can the player pick up e.g. dead Combine Soldiers? That would be cool.. or sneak up on someone and hold them as a human shield.. would be cool to be able to take hostage in CS like that too :)

Well, the manipulator has a weight limit. I don't think it is able to pick up bodies and fling them at some other sucker. Although, I'm sure it could be "modded in".

As far as I remember it was permanent. I never once saw anyone get up after being stunned.

Yes, you're right. It caused permanent unconsciousness.

Shock stick... nah..
here, have taste of bunch of fives!
If that's not enough.. how about a dropkick?

I think Gabe's philosophy of - "C’mon, people, you can’t show the player a really big bomb and not let them blow it up." - applies here. it would be slightly annoying to be shown a weapon and not be allowed to use it.

didn't the prod in deus ex just make characters shake and turn electrified? After a while they would stop. But if you got em again while they looked like they were having a ceizure, it would knock them out into unconsciousness. Right? Are we playing the same Deus Ex?

In the coast video we see the player pick up a gun with the manipulator. It would be cool if we could do that while it was still in the combine soldier's hands. And then send it back to kill him. I know it won't happen but its just a thought.

I know that the manipulator can't affect enemies. I was wondering if the player could.

Well, it depends on how good you were, both at aiming the prod, and, I believe, at the melee wepaons skill. Me, I could knock them out with one shock to the back of the head...

It affects roller mines. Those are technically enemies. If it can pick those up I don't see why it can't pick up something like a headcrab. If you can't pick up enemies with the manipulator at all I don't see how they would explain it within the game. They would have to come up with some crazy explanation.

Dr. Kleiner: "The manipulator can pick up any object with a weight of up to 50lb. It can not, however, pick up organic objects."

Alyx: "Dr. Kleiner, Gordon wants to know why the manipulator can pick up wooden boxes, but not headcrabs. Boxes are made of wood, which is organic right?"

Dr. Kleiner: <.< >.> "Ummm..errr..well the thing about boxes is...I don't have time to explain! We have to get out of here!"

Don't get technical on me! ;)
Well.. what I meant was; I've heard that they (Valve) disabled the ability for the Manipulator to affect living objects, such as Combine Soldiers, Zombies, headcrabs and so on.
When you think about it it makes sense in a playability way, the Manipulator would be too powerfull otherwise.. wouldn't need any other weapons on close range... just smash your enemies in the ground and be done with it.

...Not a spoiler I hope.....!!! [LOL] Besides, in one of the tech demo's they actually had the gun picking up bodies. Was that just for the demo>!?!

Yeah, from a gameplay perspective it makes sense. It would just be hard to explain, that's all.

lol I would love to beat up snot-nosed kids in city 17 with the shock stick (I think the real name is stun baton or somthing like that). But I know kids might not be around in HL2 so I'll beat up wanna-be thugs and gangsters

Pfft... the graviton waves from the manipulator is obviously disrupted by brainwaves...

Well.. you should be able to affect dead bodies anyway, and living ones with your (invisible)hands. Neckbreaking from behind *snap* Muahahaa

I hope you can use the manipulator to disarm them.

Like I said earlier, they had that in the tech demo, but I don't think I have seen it in any of the bink files? I guess it might be a mod for later then?

Incoming mail to Gabe then......If he still answers these days?

Whats the time over there?.....I know they are a hard working bunch, but they are not that eager are they.

I sent a message to both Gabe and Doug. I also asked about the DVD/CD issue which appeared a little while ago (See Farcry posts). I dont think we ever got an answer on that either.
