We all know that the start of episode 1 was just trailing the events in Half-life 2, but I wonder where Episode 2 will start off. In the trailer included in the ep1 bundle (only avalible when you beat the game) it shows alyx hanging on for her life. Thoughts?

I guess you start at the wreckage of the train, not too far from the bridge shown in various footages. The part with Alyx won't occur exactly at the beginning, but a bit into the first part of the game.

My thoughts. :)

Hasn't there already been a discussion about this? What the hell..

Well I think it will be immediately after the EP1 ending, on the train, and it would be cool if you on it as it de-rails, then a second after a blackout, G-Man appears and does a speech, maybe the one where he looking over Alyx's unconscious body or telling how ticked off he is that Gordon is breaking from his control, then you awake amongst the train wreckage, and it goes from there.

I have thought about it...

I think you will start up in Gman's stasis together with Alyx, just as shown in one of the trailers.

Or... wake up in the train... kinda like how it was when the stalker train in Episode 1 crashed.

With the end, but a few centimetres from your feet, burned to a crisp :p

Unless the train got flung off its rails as soon as Episode 1 ended, It'll most probably be on the actual train.

I hope it starts on the train as well, but I wonder what happens to the train itself once its engulfed (maybe picked up and chucked away?)

I'm pretty sure the train starts intact. The explosion in Episode 1 was the due to the Core bursting (from what I can gather, anyway), and I'm guessing it's the actual Citadel explosion that causes the train to derail.

I dont think so, I think that scene where you and Alyx are about to cross that bridge and that shockwave tears the bridge apart was the Citadel exploding, or could be something else

One very small explosion.

I think it probably starts on the train too. As for the sequence of events I'm not entirely sure because I'm sure valve designed the trailers to be a bit confusing in terms of the chronological arrangements of chapters so it wouldn't be predictable.

Not when you think about the fact that is has fallen into disrepair for at least 10 years, maybe 20. Metal fatigue, lack of repair/maintenance, and lets not forget that the Northridge earthquake in 1994 collapsed most of the Southern California freeway system...

The bridge doesn't explode, it doesn't even just collapse, it folds over and tears itself apart. I think it may have been the advisors doing it but who knows.

you guys do know about secondary explosions, they tend to happen after the main explosion but are far less powerful, for all we know the citadel could cause a massive infux in the space time continuum that could rip the earth apart

Which would be why Gordon is rampaging through the forest, right Hot? :p

The forest is merely an island of what is left of the Earth floating through space...

Ah shite, i forgot to add "could" to it =/ oh well fixed now

Mostly I agree. Mostly.

starting EXACTLY where Ep1 ended doesn't necessarily work. It was a great ending, but as a beginning it would be messy and confused. The explosion is clearly going to f*ck up the train something rotten, so it would make sense if the game started with you coming around in the wreckage. It would also then give a legitimate reason to take away your weapons.
I think Alyx IS hanging on after the train wreck, or if not then the bridge that collapses is NEAR the train wreck. If you see her hanging on and look at the ground far below, you can see train cars.

I agree, it should start at some sort of wreckage, EP2 scenes are telling that, Alyx is hanging so something must have gone wrong with the train.
Now as for taking away weapons I don't fully agree, there should be atleast handgun available.

Let's see. You can't logically be taken into stasis with Alyx, considering Gordon has a grav gun in the trailers.
The G-Man disarms you and has a habit of putting you out of stasis a bit away from where you were put into. If the gravity gun is left in the train, you would never get it back.

In one of the last commentary nodes in Ep 1, they say you boarding the train allows them to start you there in Ep 2.

I can't remember the exact words, but it sounds like Ep 2 starts pretty much EXACTLY when Ep 1 ends.

If so, don't make the train ride so God damn short like in Half-Life 2. Let the player get comfortable with the game first, then after a minute something obvious happens and THAT'S where the game first starts.

So... more like HL1?

So... more like HL1?

Well, not the length of the original but about a minute longer than Half-Life 2. There could be a short conversation between Alyx and the player as the train rides along, then it goes off track as everything goes haywire.

We'll see.

I presume it starts in the aftermath of the destruction of the Citadel..I don't know wether Gordon and Alyx were hit by the impact of the explosion but I think they did what with the white flash so maybe it'll start in rubble once again.
